from what i read they were suppose to but collins retired.

calzaghe then went on to fight eubank for his vacant belt.

I think Collins pulled out a week or two before they were supposed to fight, Eubank then stepped in, he had to lose about 20 pounds before the fight.

Collins was the champion, and Joe was the madatory.

Collins signed the contract, waited all the way up until a few weeks before the fight, and retired.

Joe then won the title by beating Eubank instead.
