Larry Merchant gets on my nerves...

I think Merch is just getting old. I compared his commentary on Tyson`s fights, and today he is like, talkin in slow-mo. That`s understandable, at 78 years old.

What makes me laugh, is how in the Pac-dela Hoya post interview, when Pac answered all his questions, Pac was about to invite friends to a club, at the same time Larry diverting the mic away to go to dela Hoya. LOL

He's really badass but can be a grumpy old man at times. When Pavlik knocked down Miranda and Miranda spit out his mouthpiece to recover, that had Larry all pissy. Sure it wasn't right what Miranda did but the referee has to follow the rules and put the mouthpiece back. It's not like Smoger was taking his time to do it either as he shoved it back in Miranda's mouth with alil water on it to clean it. Larry went loco about that move yet it was completely correct thing to do. He gets caught up in the moment I think and doesn't realize what he's saying. He's still insightful at times and I do enjoy the bull**** he talks after the fight ends that usually has a historic context.

Most people on this thread hasnt been to a Professional Prize fight at ringside for that matter and on HBO. Its pretty intense. I can imagine what that job may be like. They some times do get caught in the moment.

Totally co-sign on your last comment. Lampley's glibness disguises the fact that he is absolutely terrible calling a fight.

Larry is usually fun to listen to. it'd suck if the other guys weren't there to balance him out, but for the most part I like his commentary.
