One day after declaring that the sport of boxing is dying, light heavyweight kingpin Joe Calzaghe ripped into fellow superstar Oscar De La Hoya. "De La Hoya may be two years younger than me, but I am a hungry guy," Calzaghe told the Western Mail. "He has got a lot more money than me as well. That's the big difference in this. He really didn't need to keep fighting. De La Hoya hasn't been a real fighter for years. You can't fault the guy because he has been a great fighter in the past and made so much money from the sport. But, realistically, he has been a part-time boxer for years. That showed last weekend against Pacquiao who was so hungry to win that fight. Unfortunately for De La Hoya he just fell apart at the hinges after the first few rounds. He just didn't have anything there. So hopefully that was his last fight, I don't think he is going to fight again."

Calzaghe: "Oscar not a real fighter!"

Joe is wrong about boxing dying, and yeah, De La Hoya's two years younger than him, but Oscar's fought more big names than Joe ever has. Who'd Joe beat that is either in the IBHOF or will be? Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins by a narrow decision, and probably Chris Eubank, though I'm unsure if he is in the HOF or not. Going in against good opponents tends to take a lot out of a person, and Oscar's faced off against a lot of good people, including Pernell Whitaker, Bernard Hopkins, and Felix Trinidad.Last edited by Jedi Kasra; 12-11-2008, 01:53 PM.
