That's such a filipino nickname. Dodie Boy, Sean Boy, Bu boy. LoL.
You might be more familiar with Dodie Boy's brother, Gerry.

I think Gabriel "Flash" Elorde was the closes thing to mainstream boxing at the time.

Does anyone know if he's still alive?

He died about 24 years ago from Lung Cancer. After he stopped fighting, he started smoking. Tragic really, the guy meant a lot to Filipino boxing. His presence in the sport is still evident through his son Gabriel Elorde Jr., who is a promoter and manager in the Philippines, and through the Elorde Boxing Gym.

Isn't Nonito Donaire a grandson of Flash?

No, but he is known as "The Filipino Flash". Donaire's family is Boholano, whereas Elorde was Cebuano.

              I wouldn't know, actually. I'm Pinoy-American, which makes me Jersey City-ano.

Its not a diss, its the truth.

There are a handful of Filipino posters here during the times Manny isn't fighting.

Whenever he does fight, the board is flooded with Manny fans, not boxing fans.
I understand your point ....the posters you were talking to are some of those pac fans thinking they are also BOXING fans....

I already made a thread about Gabriel flash ELorde a couple of years ago and the disscusion there were insight full....except of course the usual nutcase xcaret who by the way have a similar ver. for the Filipinos ...perry the platypus(2008) and left hook tua (2008)....

if you check my threads youll see it...

Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

thats sad because a lot of our boxers specially in our home country are good.Fortunately PAC came around.I can name some who could have been more famous specially in the US where the mainstream fans are if only they were given the opportunity...DODIE BOY PENALOSA (brother of GERRY who is also a POLLO VICTIM and drags his left leg while fighting,Rolando Navarette Ceferino Garcia Ben Villaflor Little Dado....
                  and of course Luisito Espinosa...

Ben Villaflor is one of my favorite Pinoy boxers of the past. He could really hit.
