    GABRIEL "FLASH" ELORDE

Most of us Filipino Boxing fans and all boxing fans in general seems to be forgetting who this guy was, his accomplishment and his feats. Before Manny Pacquiao came, all we say is that Elorde is the best Filipino and Asian fighter of all time.In the advent of PAC, a lot of us say, specially here in the Phil. that Pac had already eclipsed the achievements of Elorde and now being tagged as the greatest Filipino Boxer who ever doned the ring.

Honestly, although a Filipino myself, I wasn't yet born at the time of his 7 yr reign. And honestly, if not for boxing historians in this site, such as Mr. Bojangles ang Grayfist (who I believed are not Filipinos themselves but know Flash a lot..God bless them..), I wouldn't have known that Elorde was indeed for real and not only highly regarded amongst us Filipinos but in the whole boxing world. In fact, I was so surprised with what Mr. Bojangles had said and quoting him to wit; "fought in 44 championship fights at 4 weight divisions and dominated the Jr. Lightweight class like no other (perhaps only Alexis Arguello comes close)." Imagine that... describing him alongside the great Alexis Arguello.Never thought Flash was THAT GOOD...

My question is this. As early as in this stage of Pac's career did he muster enough fights and wins so much so that it is right to say that he is much "Greater" than Flash??

    P.S.

I got pissed off with a thread made by an IDIOT in this site called XCARET who BTW called this HOF a bum that I decided to start this thread...Fortunately it benefitted me cause it has enriched me in oneway or another.

For me, Elorde still holds the distinction of being the best fighter ever that came out of Asia.

Pacquiao is at the top now and maybe holds the record of being highest paid fighter in Asia but he hasn't overtaken Elorde in terms of stature and accomplishments.

Its hard for young guys to appreciate fully what Flash Elorde meant to the sport of boxing. He came around in a very good era of boxing, and fought some truly great fighters. In today's era of fighting 2 times a year and retiring with 40 wins, it is easy to understate the achievements and merit of Gabriel Elorde. He dominated the 130 division, perhaps being the greatest junior lightweight of all time. He then ventured up and down in weight fighting nothing but the greats because that was the only way to put food on the table. He fought them all, ducked no one, and came out on top most of the time. He was as tough as they come, and also had some sick southpaw moves that are scarcely imitatable. My hat is off to Elorde, a true pioneer in Pinoy boxing.

Just to add up to this, Elorde is already a Hall of famer buddy, Pacquiao is still currently trying to battle his way up to the HF candidate list.
