For Manny Pacquiao - Impossible is Nothing

By Ryan ******** - There was a time when Oscar de la Hoya was the emerging superpower in the sport looking to enhance his reputation against fading legends. The swagger he exhibited in twice dominating an over-the-hill, but still viable box office force marked his arrival as the sport's main attraction. There was more symbolism than competition occurring on those two nights more than a decade ago. [details]

I never really liked Pac-Man. However I have to give the little man credit for what he did Saturday night!! DLH is shot and should retire and what killed him in my opinion was the weight loss. He should have just fought a Margarito or a Cotto and still stayed at 155/158 pounds in which he has more power. I tell you it was painful to see DLH get beat down that bad, I have always admire DLH’s work ethic and everything else he has accomplished and not to mention his money empire “Golden Boy Promotions” However the other thing that was swelled up as bad as DLH face was his wallet.

        Thanks a lot.

After watching the fight again today, I have to agree with the corner stoppage. Perhaps it went too long, even. When a fighter late in his career struggles to a low weight and dehydrates, the risk for permanent brain damage is greater than normal.

Oscar's balance was off and he was falling off stride even while throwing his own punches. He had nearly every characteristic of a fighter in distress.

Except for the vast majority of boxing scribes who felt de la Hoya would be too big.
