  • Paul Williams Takes The Wait Out of Catchweight

By Jake Donovan - The term catchweight as we’ve come to know it today has become synonymous with pay-per-view and other high profile bouts, to where it should be renamed cashweight. Seldom do two fighters abandon their comfort zone for the sake of facing one another unless a significant pile of cash lies on the table.

This weekend’s upcoming money grab is probably the greatest example. Oscar de la Hoya will weigh in at 147 lb or less for the first time in more than seven years, while Manny Pacquiao fights at the welterweight limit, not only for the first time in his career, but 12 lb beyond his career heaviest. Jumpin up and down in weight is gonna come back to haunt him after a while. Good he's willin to do it, but he should settle in at either 147 or 154 while he's waitin for his rematch wit Marg.

he should stay at 147 and whipe out 147 pounders until the anticipation for a re-match is so big that it will happen and it will be a big event.

Man is staying busy, and just keeps on winning. I think he should stay at 154, and try to unify, honestly.

I say paul williams vs joe calzaghe at 168! Why not? If pacquiao/de la hoya can happen, williams/calzaghe makes alot more sense than that!

jumping between 147 and 154 shouldn't be that bad. a lot of fighters at 147 i'm sure cut from about 154 so they're constantly moving between that weight. it's only 7 pounds. doesn't hatton cut from 160 to 140

What else way you know a 27 year old fighter can stay busy when nobody wants to fight him...You tell me.....you want him to fight bums in 147 like margo does with golden johnson....Paul williams is the people fighter not Margo...he doesn't give a damn bout you all...If only paul williams had margo fan base we could voice our opinions and get him a big fight....If mosley wins he really needs to fight paul williams...so he didn't duck him like many said...

Oh yeah, stay around at 147 chasing up and comers, chasing title holders he already beat who has expressed NO INTEREST in fighting him again. Yeah he REALLY should do that. At least Floyd LIED and said he would fight Margarito after he built a bigger name. Tony wont even lie and say he will fight him.

More like 185 to 140. He probably gains 15 pounds on the first pint of Bass Ale he drinks after the fight.
