Mayweather had the potential to be top 10 nevermind top 20, but he blew it by retiring. You dont hand pick every opponent you fight, then take a dangerous fight for a huge payday and get lucky that the guy lets up on you and you pull out the win, then retire when your 30 years old after not fighting the elite fighters of the sport.
Especially when it appears as though he is ducking Cotto and Margarito when they are both in the prime of their careers.
He's a great fighter IMO but he took his money and ran. That's not how a great fighter holds himself up and i don't care how you look at it!
Muhammad Ali, Shane Mosley, Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Larry Holmes, Evander Holyfield these men fought all the competition that was available to them they never ducked anybody. Thats a true champion.
Not some fast little lightweight who avoided any fighter whos style would give him trouble, then retired before he had to fight Miguel Cotto or Margarito.
That's not great, that's cowardly IMO.
Money Mayweather took the money and ran.
BTW he's in my top 50.Comment

He's by far the best fighter of this generation, ahead of Pacquiao, Lewis, Hopkins, Jones, De La Hoya, Whitaker, Mosley, Toney, Trinidad and Morales, so I put him in the top 10 all time or else right outside it. He's never come close to losing a fight and has won titles in 5 different weight classes. The only fight he was in danger of losing he fought with one good arm for 11 rounds and still pulled it out. I don't think you can rank anybody from the last 20 years ahead of him.Comment

High teens based on intangibles (Charisma, impact on the sport, Strength of the divisions he was in) and his fights over multiple weight divisions.
If he had solely fought at LW and had the charisma of a stone then mid 20's.Comment
