Linares did what he had to do but before we get too excited about this latest "title" we might want to note that Garcia, his latest victim, had been knocked out twice early in the past two years (1st round by Valero) and hadn't beaten anyone ranked in the top 200 junior lightweights in three years. Well, Linares won his first title against Mexican Chololo Larios with an excellent fight, and chololo has always been a great boxer. His first defense was against Gamaliel Diaz and Linares knocked him out with and excellent right punch that should have been nominated to the KO OF THE YEAR 2007. For those who said he hasn't poven himself, you better watch tose combats on YOUTUBE and then we can talk...Comment

I have. Linares has great talent. But Larios was and is shot, despite his recent wins against mediocre opposition. Diaz was KO'd by Guerrero two fights before he fought Linares. Garcia has no business fighting for a title (ranked 71st by boxrec). Nobody is saying Linares isn't skilled. But his opposition so far has been weak. Let him fight John, Guerrero, Valero or any of the top lightweights and then we can talkComment

lets be honest, he won the title from an absolute bum. Garcia is one of the 1 first round KO victims from Valero's 1st round KO streak early in his career. This fight had 0 rights being for a WORLD title. They should have just handed Linares the belt. Linares is a spectacular fighter and im a big fan, but this was just a joke of a world title fight.
And people hate on Miguel Cotto for winning vacant titles, he beat an undefeated olympian knockout artist who beat him in the ams for a title and an undefeated slick southpaw coming off an upset win over the prospect of the year and who went on to win a world title right after the loss to Cotto.
Linares beats Garcia and gets nothing but praise.

I think that Linares is one of the best fighters out there. He is a joy to watch and with all the good prospects out there, there are plenty of exiting match ups to be made. It's too bad that he isn't getting the kind of exposure that he deserves.Comment

It's truth that Garcia had nothing to do in thid combat, but it doesn't change the fact that Jorge Linares is an excellent boxer and would have beaten anyone they put in front of him. I'm from venezuela and I saw the fight live, and I can tell you, he can kick any boxer's ass. I'm pretty sure from now on he is gonna get better combats and will show the world how good he is...Comment

I just got around to watching the Linares fight.......i thought he did what he had to do but he did not look his best probably because he was not motivated or something he did not look bad i just thought he could of made the fight easier for himself
Positives he has a great jab,quick hands and he is a good counter puncher. Ironically the punch that took Garcia out was a COUNTER left hook.
Negatives he got hit with right hand over the top a little too much........ and he threw too many single shots (the jab).......... i felt he could of put the right hand behind it a bit more and he would of gotten more respect outta Garcia..... instead of letting him push him back too much.Comment
