You got to realize first that when Oscar fought this 2 he had only 23 and 24 fights. Oscar wasnt in his prime yet. A prime Oscar would definetly beat Chavez at any weight!!!! And against Whitaker he would lost but not as badly as people think!!!!. I say against Chavez a late round TKO like 10 or 11 and against Whitaker a UD lost 115-112.
how would Oscar have gotten on with a prime Chavez ,Whitaker

another excellent post with some great points brought upChavez had over 100 fights by the 2nd De La Hoya fight and was 36, which is pretty old for someone with his style. he was clearly not the same fighter at that point.
the first fight was simply unfair because Chavez had bad cuts suffered in training that opened up in the first round. not that he would have beaten De La Hoya at that point in his career anyway.Comment

De La Hoya was 25 for the 2nd Chavez fight, and a year or less later he was schooling Trinidad, fighting Ike Quartey and beating up Oba Carr. not to mention that this was his 4th weight class...You got to realize first that when Oscar fought this 2 he had only 23 and 24 fights. I doubt it. Tito would have probebly beaten him, but the fighter that most resembles Chavez that Trinidad fought is probebly Campas. that was a brutal knockout at the end, but Chavez had much better defence than Campas and Campas was still able to drop Trinidad while he was fighting inside. not to mention that Chavez usually ate up punchers. the fighters that Chavez had trouble with were volume punchers, and Trinidad is actually a fighter that only throws about 30 punches a round.
I think Pernell beats Trinidad.Comment
