The Time is Right For a Floyd Mayweather Jr. Return

By Dave Sholler - Boxing is much like a Thanksgiving Day turkey. When cooked right, its ingredients blend to make the most appetizing sport on the planet. However, when prepared wrong, boxing usually tastes bland, dry, or overdone.

As we look forward to slicing the holiday boxing bird this year, it is clear that one vital ingredient is missing. In a sport that has plenty of side dishes and stuffing, it is glaringly evident that boxing is missing its gravy. While we have been fortunate enough to have some decent bouts in recent weeks, one must peel back the skin to reveal that boxing’s meat is in need of some serious ****es.

Look no further than recent pay-per-view numbers and the struggling economy as proof. Fewer than 200,000 people tuned in to watch Kelly Pavlik serve up a duck against Bernard Hopkins. Only a few thousand more watched Joe Calzaghe carve up Roy Jones. While promoters can forever blame a poor consumer market, the argument can be made that boxing fans just aren’t up to trimming their wallets for meatless, yet pricey pay-per-view cards. [details]

This writer has no fan maturity. Falling for the same old con. A PBF comeback means exactly nothing unless he fights Margarito. Hoya is shot, Pacquio is too small and Hatton has already been drubbed and never was much good, truth be told.

PB's fights have all been frauds in recent years. To crow after beating the likes of Hoya, Gatti, Mitchell and Hatton would try the patience of intelligent people. But not this writer. He claims the Hoya/PB PPV was well worth the money and he never had a second thought about slapping leather for it.

As long as guys in his position keep lending their imprimaturs to mismatches and con jobs, you the fan are never going to see the fights you want to see and had ought to be able to see because they actually matter.

This writer has the churlishness to suggest that Mayweather can reclaim P4P #1 status with a win over the likes of Hoya or the miniature Pacquio. Maybe Lennox Lewis can come out of retirement and fight Calzaghe for current P4P honors. Makes about as much sense.

Mayweather can come out of retirement to show he is the best welterweight in the world by fighting Margarito, or he can stay retired as far as I am concerned. One more con job will not save boxing but further eviscerate it.

If he's gonna fight again, it's gotta be against the top WW or it's pointless.

Well his last weight was WW and the #1 WW is Margarito. Cotto was his biggest challenge and he ran away and when he had no more room to run he retire. When he fought DLH they fought at SWW. And Bladomir is a joke of a win. Compare to Cottos and Margaritos resume at WW Floyds resume is ****!!!

If PBF makes a comeback it needs to be against Pac Man,who I think he would embarress.Or Antonio Margarita, who I also think he would out box.I would love to see De La Hoya fight Margarita as well. I know I am part of the minority but I think De La Hoya could beat him.If he can beat Pac Man on Dec. 6, and beat Margarita, then why not a rematch with PBF? But these guys had better do what they need to do right now in the next couple of years because the future belongs to Andre Berto.

i don't see a floyd comeback unless he does something incredibly ****** with his cash, but from what i've read, he's been incredibly smart with his finances and his kids' kids are pretty much set. Unlike some other fighters *cough*evander*cough.
