Have you guys ever heard of the pendulum effect?

It's like in Government, when things are swinging all the way to the left, they slowly start swinging all the way back to the right (like a pendulum)

(the last time frame) of boxing's glory years were basically the 70s-80s, boxing then started to die down and if you notice, it's starting to pick itself back up.

    I should write a book.
You're forgetting the 90's when Chavez still sold good. And DElahoya ruled in fame and ppv and was all over tv both American and spanish tv. Even now every time Delahoya fights its an event and everybody wants to watch and be part of.

Compare the 90s to the 80s.

here in Richmond, boxing sometimes doesnt even make the sports page at all.. and if any fight makes the page it is usually behind even high school football all the way in the back(even the big ones)

I'm not following you here, Ice. When you say funding. You mean these gyms were paying the bills through donations or what?

I figured these boxing gyms were a business for profit ala Gleason's, just like these MMA gyms now. I know about the PAL's and the Youth Community gyms that teach boxing

So called sports sections that don't include Boxing are common place in my area. Boxing is the black sheep of sports plain and simple, not a gentleman sport like Tennis or Golf which gets more interest from the general public. The whole Boxing is too barbaric for Network T.V. stigma, at first, I thought was the culprit but when you have monster Networks like CBS picking up MMA then that gets you wondering.

Now that CBS had to cancel their MMA venture, I hope they try to bring back Saturday night Boxing events like the old days. I think resurrecting Live Boxing on Network T.V. would bring in even more casual fans.

Most gyms are NOT as lucky as Gleason's to be able to extract revenue like that...many gyms are PAL gyms...etc...they rely on city, town or state funding...I just heard yesterday at PAL gym in a local town here, for example, a gym that has been open since 1994, is set to be cut off from funding in a month or so.
