This shows how much different big time boxing TODAY is as compared to the 80's...the day after Holmes-Cooney, Howard Cosell was out by the ring in the empty arena interviewing Gerry Cooney live on ABC Sports....and in 1985 you had these two http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JC8K5tCaa8o talking about their fight live on network TV...etc etc...can you imagine, say, Taylor and Pavlick , etc being interviewed live on NETWORK TV about their fight...it wouldnt happen...it's just a differnt era...boxing has been pushed to small print on page 12....sucks...
No offense to anyone but...

Today's trainers suck, not all of 'em, but a whole lot of 'em, therefore the product says it all.
I mean, there's hardly any boxing only gyms. The streets are littered with these MMA load of ****. Trainers who don't really train. It's ****.
I don't have a problem with MMA gyms(it's a great idea), but it's the MMA gyms that's producing all these unskilled fighters.Comment

Scully,
Why do you think alot of the old-school boxing gyms went down?
I am currently a member of an MMA gym, since it's the only ones around these days. Jiu-Jitsu classes are the most popular, but the boxing classes aint' doin' bad either. So where did it go wrong for the good ole boxing gyms of yester-years?Comment

The funding for these gyms went down over the years...Hartford used to have FOUR or FIVE gyms back in the 80's...now they have one gym that is producing very little...Comment

I think it has a lot to do with the mangager, promters and a bit do to the fighter, in that fact that now a days imo, they rushing fighters into big fights or prospects in with contenders. And now a days even when you lose, your next fight is still up against another top fighters instead of going back to the basics and working on things you're put into a tough fight right away.Today's trainers suck, not all of 'em, but a whole lot of 'em, therefore the product says it all.

Boxing will come back to life like it was decades ago.
Have you guys ever heard of the pendulum effect?
It's like in Government, when things are swinging all the way to the left, they slowly start swinging all the way back to the right (like a pendulum)
(the last time frame) of boxing's glory years were basically the 70s-80s, boxing then started to die down and if you notice, it's starting to pick itself back up.
I should write a book.Comment

I agree, my city used to have 4 boxing gyms back two years ago, now it only has 2. The funding has become a very big problem.Comment

MMA stands for Watered down boxing/watered down Muay Thai/watered down Jiu-Jitsu.
When everything is watered down, the final product is a Toughman competition on 'roids!Comment
