I don't see what the problem is. He congratulated Hatton and there's no bad blood.

As for Paulie being stronger, that doesn't surprise me. I remember thinking on the night that he has the bigger frame. For all of Ricky's bustling physicality he's a pretty scrawny guy.

I feel sorry for Paulie. He gets a lot of very undeserved stick, IMO. It's obvious the kid has plenty of guts (not many would have stood up to the beating Cotto put on him) and a fair bit of skill. Such a pity his hands are knackered. With even a bit of power he could be a very dangerous opponent.

That said, I agree with McGirt. Paulie's slowly being dragged into war after war. He can't keep on taking a beating and hope it won't impact seriously on his health. Buddy may well have saved him for one last payday when the odds aren't so obviously stacked against him.

    Good interview. Nice kid.

How much did Malignaggi make for this fight?
800k was his cut.. this was supposed to be PPV but was pulled fro reguliar HBO. He is a good fighter but he tagged in the second round and got gun shy. he was caught flush by a Hatton right hand and the rest of the fight besides the 5th round was much of the same holding and jab was all Paulie did. Shame he got a shot on a big stage and he looked worst then he ever looked. He needed to make an impact and he didn;t probably would have to fight 2 garbage fights to get a shot at any of those guys you mentioned earlier....Lefty

I think he needs a few well matched fights to get his confidence back again. He's only 27 & has'nt been in many tear ups so he has plenty of time on his side. If he damages his hand again though, he could well retire.

No way did he look stronger than Hatton either.
If he became world champion, it would be one hell of a weak division.

Gotta love Paulie..I dont want him to retire though..It just turned out that Hatton is a bad style matchup for hi and those weak hands...he should move down to 135.

How many times have we discussed this same topic: If you are not right Mentally, you can't be right physically, and if you are not right physically, your not going to be 100% Mentally. It all goes hand in hand.

I pointed that same thing out with Hatton vs. Tszyu and why some of us shouldn't have gotten carried away.

If you look at Tszyu's upper body frame, it is huge compared to most, if not all 140 pound fighters. This is why he was always able to hustle people around the ring.
But it caught up with him vs. Hatton, who was younger, active, and didn't struggle to make the weight like Tszyu did at that time. When you are drained, it doesn't matter how big you are, you have no energy.

I also considered this one of the problems Hatton had going on after Tszyu: he thought he was legitimately stronger than Tszyu, the regarded strongest man in the division, so he tried the same tactics on Collazo and Floyd, and it didn't work. Why? Because they were younger and didn't drain themselves to make the weight. It was a false confidence Hatton got when he fought Tszyu and it back-fired for not evaluating the situation afterwards like he did before the fight.
