Antonio Margarito: Near Disaster and Fortunate Save

If Margarito feels like he has been unrewarded for his hard work he should really look at his promoter. During the leadup to the Cotto fight all you heard was Arum basically saying Cotto would win. He basically threw Margarito under the bus for that fight and for his entire career. I dont think Margarito was being avoided because of him being a tough fighter, but he was a high risk low reward fighter because Arum didnt work hard enough to get him the fights nor the exposure of a champion who held his title for 7 years. So the blame lies at Arums feet.
Suprisingly enough, it's good for him that he held out on the fight. Seems he has smartened up and realizes Arum doesnt think much of his value and he has to do what he has to do in order to make the money he wants to make.Comment

Great ****ing article.
Marg's narrative is based on th "take on all comers", "mexican warrior", "blood n guts", and "I'll take short money to make fights" mantra. When Marg starts asking for more money he subverts his narrative and that makes him looks hypocritical and lose all credibility.
that's like the terminator coming back in time to kill john connors, but decides to take a vacation... it's not in the storyline and looks ******.
crold is correct that marg shouldn't have made the issue public. he shouldn't have gone missing and not answered his phone calls. because that gave mosley a chance to take shots at margarito... then marg had to respond by making a statement.... dumb dumb dumb... he should keep his negotiations private and he shouldn't be talking money split this n that... that's what his promoter is for.
Man your hate for margarito is so obvious. Even in an article that pays margarito respect you need to throw your hate in.Comment

If Margarito's looking to get paid, that's all good with me. The man deserves it and has come up fighting the hard way in boxing. If he's looking to secure his financial future though, 2009 is the year to do it. His already scheduled fights against Mosley and Cotto will earn him some very good paydays. Plus, if he wins both matchups, he can still finish out the year with one more fight...hopefully a big-money rematch with Paul Williams, or even unify in a rematch with Clottey.
Hell, even if loses the Cotto rematch, there's always a big-money rubbermatch to be made.Comment

Even if we didn't hear Arum say that Margs will lose, you can tell who he wanted to win. There was even talks of Cotto fighting Clottey in PR after the fight.Comment
