Why do some people hate Calzaghe? (The real poll not that biased one one here now.)

Actually Calzaghe admitted Eubank was the toughest fight of his career(Which i don't agree with, Reid did!), but that's besides the point.
Hopkins didn't give Calzaghe the toughest fight of his career. The fight was awful, not close.Comment

Good post.I must confess that I love winding up the haters, because their vitriol seems to have some other agenda as you suggest. If for example you are a fan of Joe's and/or show pleasure at his victories(kind of the point of these forums),then you are instantly derided as a nuthugger etc.etc. Fact is,Joe has had an extraordinary career. How many fighters out there only fight the best around and no one else? None! because it would give their promoters and managers fits.Fighters are supposed to beat who is put in front of them, and very very few are talented enought to find themselves in a position where they can call the shots and fight who they want to fight, but when this happens it is usually at the end of their careers and they want to make as much money as they can.And who could blame them? Boxing is the hardest sport to make a career in,and it is a short one at that. The alternative? The sad sight of punch drunk Evander Holyfield fighting to pay off his debts. There will always be one more fight for Joe,and seemingly the boo hiss calslappy brigade wont be happy until someone beats him so they can say,"ya see! told you he was ****".And that is pathetic.I tend to agree with what Chunk had said above. I think a lot of people weren't really up on Calzaghe pre Lacy. A lot of Calzaghe's legacy really is based around being the #1 SMW and being one of the longest reigning champions. When some people don't know they existed until the latter 3rd of their career, let alone who they fought or how good they were, they just assume they must be over rated, not that good, avoiding fighters, and beating up bums.
The reality is he beat whomever was put in front of him. The only majorly significant fights that didn't come off in his division were Ottke whom wouldn't take a fight for ****, and Roy whom didn't spend long at SMW, and didn't really entertain the possibility of Calzaghe. Don't blame him entirely, but neither do I Calzaghe, just one of those things.
Most of the guys Calazaghe beat were top 10 contendors and most American. This alone leaves the "Calzaghe beat Euro bums for years" virtually laughable, ignorant and invalid.
Hopkins is an American legend whom people hate to see lose even if he wasn't majorly popular he was fairly, and well respected. He pulled out of a fight with Joe, fact, something you don't hear people mentioning so much but make it up on Joe for others. Hopkins was everything aside, factually a top 5 p4p fighter, still is, and Joe beat him.
I don't mind disliking but hating often suggests some inner personal issues with the sportsmen, often linked to nationalism, them beating someone you like, and just not liking their personality.
Pretty lame reasons really, I don't hate any sports man or women.Comment

Isnt It funny that the people who say "big deal,Hopkins is 43",are exactly the same people who want to see a rematch?Comment
