I hate how Calzaghe fans hype his wins like they are something special.

      They call Lacy mini Tyson.
They think Kessler beats everyone from 160 to 175.
They ignore the fact that Eubank was past his prime and entered a 2 week weight draining regime because he was meant to fight at 175 and took fight at short notice.
They think Hopkins does not have a case he won the fight
Hopkins does NOT have a case and I was ROOTING FOR HOPKINS..

I don't hate the guy. I think he is very over rated by his fans and has done too little to late to earn what he supposedly "deserves".
I will admit I don't like watching the guy fight.. He is very sloppy and has horrible technique.

This thread could go a 1000 pages LMAO!

I think because deep down people realize the man has talent, it's just painful for them to admit it. Love to hate sort of thing. People see him as a vulture, looking across the pond for the right time to strike the aging greats.

The reality is Joe has been a victim of the politics of the sport. Frank Warren does no fighter favours, he is only interested in lining his pockets with the wages of his fighters and if that means protecting his fighter in his locality he will do it. Joe should have split with him a long time ago and gone stateside to prove himself. It makes me wonder, how would Joe be seen today if the 2002 Hopkins fight went ahead, he won, and continued to fight in the States against the best?

At the end of the day Joe Calzaghe has been the victim of his own secrecy. Joe was the champion and if people want to fight the champ he should be approached, not the other way around, regardless of the geographical location. Who wants to fight a dangerous fighter nobody has heard of? A loss against an unheralded European and your stock would fall quicker than 1929. The risk does not match the potential reward. It makes me wonder if in 2002 Hopkins realised all of this at the 11th hour.

                i cant pick just one.

                overrated
                fighting style (slaps)
resume is thin ( kessler, lacy are nothing to brag about, hopkins is 43, jones is 40)
                ducks prime fighters (dawson)

and this has nothing to do with him being from the UK. if he was american i would still feel the same way

I tend to agree with what Chunk had said above. I think a lot of people weren't really up on Calzaghe pre Lacy. A lot of Calzaghe's legacy really is based around being the #1 SMW and being one of the longest reigning champions. When some people don't know they existed until the latter 3rd of their career, let alone who they fought or how good they were, they just assume they must be over rated, not that good, avoiding fighters, and beating up bums.

The reality is he beat whomever was put in front of him. The only majorly significant fights that didn't come off in his division were Ottke whom wouldn't take a fight for ****, and Roy whom didn't spend long at SMW, and didn't really entertain the possibility of Calzaghe. Don't blame him entirely, but neither do I Calzaghe, just one of those things.

Most of the guys Calazaghe beat were top 10 contendors and most American. This alone leaves the "Calzaghe beat Euro bums for years" virtually laughable, ignorant and invalid.

Hopkins is an American legend whom people hate to see lose even if he wasn't majorly popular he was fairly, and well respected. He pulled out of a fight with Joe, fact, something you don't hear people mentioning so much but make it up on Joe for others. Hopkins was everything aside, factually a top 5 p4p fighter, still is, and Joe beat him.

I don't mind disliking but hating often suggests some inner personal issues with the sportsmen, often linked to nationalism, them beating someone you like, and just not liking their personality.

Pretty lame reasons really, I don't hate any sports man or women.

because hes white and not american ... if a black american fighter had his style and atitude of joe calzaghe ..ud all be on his **** ... calzaghe is a great figther ... cmon do u honestly think dawson deserves a shot at him ?? 175 is not his true weight class .. and dawson is not on his level... calz would make him look ****** like he did jones ..then you "fans" would bring in a another name .. (make me sick)...same thing with mayweather .. you wil not be satisfied untill they lose .. calzaghes the best right now .. he just happens 2 be white and not be american ..get over it ..!!..
