No disrepect. but Ruiz wins.
Joe Calzaghe v John Ruiz at their respected best

His walk around weight was often around 180+, and now at LHW it's around 190, rumoured 200. He's never out of shape though, so he wouldn't have to put on as much muscle as people think, for one thing.
That, added with he speed, tough chin, and boxing brain in adapting to suite, it'd be very competitive. Ruiz wasn't a good HW at all, one of the worst belt holders of recent times.
I think his stamina would be ok because he always has a good engine, runs a lot, and does things well on the whole. He'd have to get a better conditional guy in to help though, that would be key. Hopefully he'd be clever enough to do that, but that's un certain for one.
The main thing against him is his lack of power, largely due to his frail hands. However, in 2003 the year Roy beat Ruiz, Calzaghe was floored by the hardest Byron Mitchell had ever hit someone, and Joe got up un affected. That is immense, so for me he could probably take a lot of Ruiz's shots surprisingly, but not all. He'd need to use his speed and improve his defence. In return, Joe knocked Byron down, rocked him about and TKO'd him in the same round.
All in all I think it's too hard to predict because a lot would come down to if Calzaghe got a good conditional coach in, someone else in the team, suitable sparring partners and such. He's never had to do those things too much as he's been in the same weight class, so I don't know even if he did entertain the idea, if he'd give in and do these things, which for me would be crucial.
A close fight though, he's not ****** and would give himself a good shot.Comment
