maybe he should have let it go . . . but there was little to no point in doing so, it would have been just for paulies pride. he's still a tough little guido and had a pretty special career despite the fact of his brittle hands and total lack of power.

I'm not sure what Gatti has to do with this other than being Italian. He fights nothing like Paulie. His power is an equalizer and he loves taking a chance trying to hit them, especially since his hands aren't as brittle as Paulie's. Gatti wouldn't have lasted against Cotto.

Personally I think the job of the corner is to save your fighter from sustaining a terrible beating or injury - not to save him from further embarrassment. That's disrespectful to the people who paid to watch.

WOW i cant believe people are hating on Paulie for being mad that Buddy threw in the towel. WTF is wrong with y'all? Y'all are criticizing a fighter for not wanting to quit? Like thats a bad thing... hes not Cotto or Sam Peter who just give up when there gettin beat. You can criticize Paulie for having a bad fight, for standing in front of hatton and letting hatton get his punches off first and for paulie clinching and not moving. But to criticize him for not wanting to quit is f.ucking whack.

I don't usually comment on these forums, but how can you hate on Cotto for quitting, when all Paulie was doing was holding? Had Cotto held on for ~11 rounds like Paulie did he would have went 12 rounds easy, anyone can do that. But no, he fights his heart out, gives it his all, and doesn't bore us fans to death by grappling, and all people do is give him **** for "quitting." I like Paulie, and I understand that he wanted to finish the fight, so that he didn't have a TKO loss on his record, but the bottom line is that he was not the better fighter last night. Why should I give him credit for not wanting to quit when in reality all he was doing was trying to survive? Its not like he was TRYING to win and went out on his shield. Cotto was man enough to realize that it wasn't his night...he had zero left to give...he didn't even have the energy to hold on anymore, so why absorb any more punishment?
