    Joe Cortez...Ref of the Century

I posted this earlier, but I think it deserves its own thread... to honor Mr. Joe Cortez...the referee of the century.

90% of Ricky Hatton's game is on the inside. In his fight against Mayweather, Joe Cortez took Hatton's inside game away by design. Cortez didn't appear paid off, like the British ref in the Tszyu/Hatton fight. But, Cortez was obviously on a mission and he interfered whenever he could do it without giving the appearance of cheating. It was just a case of terrible reffing, pure and simple. Surely, Cortez is the most despised ref in the game right now...at least with Nady you know what's coming. Cortez is the type of guy that just loves to see his own face on TV,, read his own name in print, and the only ref that purposefully attracts attention to himself with that "I'm fair but I'm firm" crap. What kind of ref has to re-affirm that "he's fair"? Being fair is what a ref is supposed to be. Cortez is a worthless media hound who just had to insert himself into a very big match. It was much like the football ref that can't help but throw a controversial flag in the last minute of a tied ballgame. In Hatton v. Mayweather I, it was if Cortez was on a mission to save American boxing. He's a worthless sack of $%&*, a veritable vulgarian, and $%^$ing anus licking blowhard &%*sucker. He is also a detestible buffoon and self-important *******.

Simply cannot be worse than Cortez in Hatton v. Mayweather I. No way. My god, he was terrible. It was really worse than terrible because there are bad refs that are bad because they are incompetent, congenitally afraid of injuries (Nady), et...but Cortez did it intentionally against one boxer to influence a fight. This goes to the things I described above. Mainly that he's a positively self important media hound, that believed it was his mission to save American boxing.

I know this is a long post but on the real..

there is a VERY big difference between fighting on the inside and holding THEN hitting. Hatton was trying to HOLD THEN HIT. in Boxing, you may not know this, but you only supposed to hold when you are hurt, you're not supposed to needlessly clinch or you can get penalized for it, for pete's sake man it's even in Fight Night. you hold without needing to and it's a penalty meaning Hatton's whole game plan for the majority of his whole career was to hold you and THEN hit you, in lamer terms he just tangled up your hands so you can't throw anything back at him while he's hitting you. his whole game was designed behind a penalty and because he fought basically his whole career before Mayweather and Collazo in the UK he was able to get away with it.

once Hatton ran into a referee who was able to actually control the fight, not just let him go wild and stop the clinch only when it goes too far he lost. against Paulie Hatton wasn't the one holding it was Paulie which surprised me, Paulie performed like himself on his worst day, I couldn't believe Paulie was looking so awful, his movement wasn't there and he undermined himself by not throwing what he could throw, he made a lot of people look down on him yesterday. however back to the point, HE was the one holding for a change but in basically every other fight Ricky is the one constantly holding and I don't mean holding as in it's a rough fight and both fighters are coming in getting tangled up I mean holding as in he PURPOSELY clinches you (<--That's Illegal) and THEN throws punches, the clinches didn't come from in close combat that found both fighters tied up it came from Hatton using it as means of trapping his opponent and tying up his arms to not get hit back, his whole base style was a penalty.

while YOU trying to escape him holding you HE's hitting you and when the clinch is finally broken he does it all over again, if a referee doesn't stop him he can repeat this over and over and just maul you using a tactic that under actual Boxing rules can't be done excessively.. now answer me this, does it make it okay for Ricky to hold then hit just because it's part of his style? NO, as a matter of fact once he wasn't able to do that illegal **** he lost his cool and was exposed as a tough slugger with little to no skills until the man whose son beat him put his hands on him and taught him an offense that doesn't start with clinching, a REAL game plan.. Ricky can do well now that he has a trainer like Floyd, someone who can show him how to be first without having to clinch you..

Joe Cortez is a very good referee and he did an EXCELLENT job with Hatton-Mayweather, in no way shape or form should Hatton have been allowed to consecutively clinch and penalize his way to giving Mayweather his 2nd loss, it would've been just pitiful to see that happen and I'm glad someone finally stopped him and exposed just who he is when he couldn't hold you first intentionally and THEN hit you when you all tangled and can't hit back, he was a master of that.

Not one time did I hear Joe Cortez say: "Box out of it." We heard that alot tonight in the Hatton-Malignaggi fight and I didn't see anything illegal. What I heard in the Floyd fight was Jim Lampley busting a hernia about Joe Cortez inserting himself into the fight. I heard that all night, along with Cortez' constant "Break!" That's just what I heard. But, I also saw what I saw. I saw corruption in the form of a referee. I can take it with the promoters, the boxers, and even the judges (because we're so used to it), but not in the friggin ref!
