WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito says Golden Boy Promotions and Shane Mosley should stop complaining about his refusal to fight Mosley on January 24. Margarito turned down a 50-50 split that would have given both fighters $2 million dollars. Apparently you havent seen the Ring rankings lately. They are pretty confusing. On the P4P list they have Cotto(8) ranked above Williams(10). But when they break down each division, they have Williams(2) ahead of Cotto(3). Please give an explanation since you have placed emphasis on the ranking system. They rank Cotto in the Welterweights ahead of 2 title holders, Clottey and Berto. So PLEASE dont bring Ring's rankings into it cause that **** changes with the wind.

And for the record, if you take the belt away, Margarito HAS been defeated in the last 10 years. Please doublecheck your post before hitting the send button.

Arum and Margarito petitioned the WBO for a NON-TITLE fight, a unification fight with Cotto, THEN a fight with Williams. Arum said if the WBO would not grant the petition, then Margarito would relinquish his title to fight for Cotto's WBA title. After the WBO rejected the offer and Goosen won the purse bid that Arum offered Margarito $900k to fight Cotto. Margarito feeling he was lowballed, accepted Goosen's offer of $1.6 million in which Arum threatened to sue Margarito for breach of contract, and Goosen for interference with his fighter. Arum later realized he had no case against Goosen and agreed to drop his suit in order to entice Margarito to renew his contract with Top Rank which he only had one fight left under Arum. So it wasnt like it was a noble thing Margarito did by fighting his mandatory. Williams had been his mandatory for over a year and when the WBO was going to force his hand, he was doing eevrything he could to get out of avoiding the fight. The ONLY reason he took the fight is he knew he would get way less to lose his title and fight Cotto for his.
