It is hard to say about Margarito, he does have some pull but can he draw eyeballs by himself. I really think this fight would have helped Margarito's long term appeal and raised his stock even more. To me its just a bad career move, because I still think Margarito can beat Shane. In terms of right now yea I would have to say Margarito has a little more shine. If Margarito does nothing between now and a Cotto fight how does that help him though.

What is Margarito going to do now fight some scrub? I do not see who Margarito could really fight, right now that would be better then Mosley. I just do not understand the move.
so a unification fight with clottey on a way to rematch with cotto who will have the wba belt isn't an option? The winner of that fight will be the wba, wbo, and ibf champion and will also carry the crown of the undisputed champion. Is that not good enough?

The Home Depot Center is in Carson, CA...a suburb of LA.

I think at this point yes, Margarito can pull more people by himself than Mosley. Like the original post said, just compare recent bouts and the numbers speak for themselves.

I'm not defending Margarito in any way by the way. I really wish that he had fought Shane. I posted earlier that a perfect 2009 for Margarito would've been Mosley in January, Cotto rematch in June, and if he won both, finish of the year with a Paul Williams rematch...or even Clottey if P-Will wasn't available.

Is that fight an option? That is a fine fight, and possibly a tougher fight then Mosley. I was cool with the fight in November and I am still cool with it. I do not see how it is really a better career move though. There are always fights he can do, people seem to want to fight him now. I just want him to fight someone before a Cotto rematch hopefully against decent opposition.

Man some of you Marg nut clingers are really getting gung ho about this. He's had a couple of chances now to earn more money than he ever has and both times didn't take the fights. I know he wants to cash out as does every boxer does and it seems when Floyd was doing the same thing the Marg nut clingers seemed to think differently which it makes ironic that this situation is happening. Not too many people are gonna get Margarito that kind of money except for Cotto and DLH. I don't understand why he just doesn't take the fight especially against Shane. Shane is on the down side of his career and if Marg is as good as some think he should beat him and then he could demand even more money in future fights. We can get into this talk about who's the biggest draw, which I understand plays a role in boxing, but what should be more important and what Im wondering is who is the better fighter at this moment. Does Shane still have enough left to beat Marg or is Marg just too much?

i agree with you completely,i said in a similar thread that margarito and williams outsold mosly-mayorga,which is what makes the argument that mosley is the bigger sell not really strong

Mosely is overpriced. Marg deserves better. Screw Marg vs Mosely. Marg is in his prime and Mosely is just an old dude tryin to cash in. They should find a suitable opponent for the dynamo Marg

Shane is too small and too old for someone of Margaritos style and caliber. This fight while adding a big name to his resume does nothing for the welterweight landscape. After Tony beats Shane, the same old, "old man, past his prime" excuses will come flying out the window.

Some posters have already said even if Tony took the fight and won, they'd give him very little credit, but they want the fight to happen anyways.

                  That doesn't make any sense.
