Boxing requires a higher skill level than MMA.

Listen, I'm always defending MMA because I appreciate the sport. Boxing is my #1 sport though. I've had my fair share of throwing down in both sports and I can tell you to be a pro level boxer takes more skill level than it takes to be a pro level MMA fighter. In MMA you can get away with several mistakes in a fight even at the higher levels. In boxing, you make a mistake and chances are it's all over.
There are several pro boxers in various weight divisions that with just 6months of solid jui-jitsu training they could compete at a high level in MMA. I don't know of any MMA fighter that could do the same in the sport of boxing.

First of all, it requires SKILL.

I've always looked at this way.

Get your average guy off the street and he'll last longer in an MMA fight than in a boxing match. I'm not saying he'll even make it through one round but I feel he'll most definitely last longer than in a boxing match.

      agree 100%.

MMA is basically a bar brawl with it being 90% ground game. A boxer who learns how to fight on the ground would absolutley destroy any MMA fighter. Id put my money on kermit cintron against sean seark if cintron learned some JJ, with his wrestling background/stand up hed kill anyone in the MMA at his weight.

Cintron is one of the fighters a was thinking about when mentioning boxers crossing over. He has a decent wrestling backround and that goes a long way in the sport of MMA. Jui-Jitsu would come natural to him. I also wrestled 5 years from 8th to a senior in High School. When I got involved in MMA it advanced me ten fold in the learning curve of the ground game.

So what are you going to do if the guy shoots on you instead? How are you going to recover with your hands close and high to your head?

This is false. Natural wrestlers are conditioned to not like being on their backs.

If a guy "shoots" at me and misses, he's dying?

That is only one aspect of both wrestling and the ground game. It doesn't mean that wrestling knowledge doesn't tremendously advance your skills on the ground.
