Boxing superstars Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather return next year????

    By Niall Hickman

Boxing superstars Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather jnr are both certain to fight again.

Unbeaten Welsh star Calzaghe has already started negotiations with broadcasters Sky Sports over a clash next summer at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium with either Bernard Hopkins, Chad Dawson, or Carl Froch – if Froch beats Jean Pascal for the WBC super-middleweight title next month.

Mayweather has been secretly working out on a regular basis in the gym in recent weeks and is itching for a return next year. He will fight the winner of Ricky Hatton versus Paulie Malignaggi, or Oscar de la Hoya versus Manny Pacquaio.

Several months ago Calzaghe, 36, announced that he would retire after last weekend’s light-heavyweight clash with Roy Jones jnr, but after the Madison Square Garden fight he indicated he might fight on.

Calzaghe’s advisers have now told Sky TV they want to hold a summer spectacular in Cardiff and Hopkins has already been sounded out about a rematch following his defeat earlier this year on a controversial split points decision after the Welshman was put on the canvas in the first round.

Last month Dawson easily beat Antonio Tarver for the IBF light-heavyweight title. Calzaghe feels beating ageing warriors Hopkins, 43, and 39-year-old Jones has not quite secured his legacy as the best British boxer ever and he is also keen to cash in on his reputation as arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Mayweather held that unofficial title until his ‘retirement’ last December after inflicting a first-ever defeat on Manchester fighter Hatton.

Both of the showdowns he is monitoring take place in the next couple of weeks. Although Hatton was well beaten by Mayweather last year, the ‘Hitman’ could face him again next summer at Wembley stadium if he impresses against Malignaggi. Mayweather knows Hatton’s army of followers makes a rematch potentially lucrative.

Hatton needs to produce a similar performance to the one he delivered in June 2007 when a fourth-round KO victory over Jose Luis Castillo triggered his fight with Mayweather, which smashed pay-per-view records.

Mayweather has been in light training at the gym in recent weeks and cannot wait to restart his career following 39 straight wins and six world titles at five different weights.

Don't know how legit this is, hope it's true especially if it's Dawson vs Calzaghe.

Floyd did say he's taking 24 months off... he'll probly fight around December 09..

So Joe is rematching Hopkins in Cardiff?...if its true, this will be B-Hop's greatest challenge as an underdog...I'll be rooting for him like crazy.... still don't believe anything in that article though...

Mayweather vs. Hatton only make sense if Hatton beats Pacquaio....

              other than that...

Mayweather vs. Pacquaio is the best fight that can be made..
              p4p vs. p4p

              Speed vs Speed
              Offense vs. Defense
              Great vs. Great
              P4P VS. P4P

This is the best possible match that can be made if Pacquiao beats De la hoya or loses a CRAZY split decision to de la hoya.
