Pavlik gets slaughtered for 12 rounds, like the Hopkins fight only Calzaghe lands even more punches.

I think it might have been Kelly getting comprehensively thrashed by Hopkins that is responsible for that rather than Calzaghe's win over Roy.

Hopkins demonstrated just how one-dimensional Kelly is. I think Calzaghe is about as bad a style matchup as you can get for Pavlik. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a shutout.

No offense but you'd have to be an idiot to still believe Pavlik has a chance.

Calz is a pressure fighter with a high output (this is his strength), but so is Pavlik and I would bet Pavlik hits a little harder then Calza does. Unless calz draws up some master plan about how his 110 punches in a round would somehow force pavliks 110 punches per round to slow down this is a toss up fight. Not to mention these flash kds Calz has been suffering lately (a very high chance that he gets more then one in a fight with pavlik giving pavlik a few 10-8 rounds)
Well considering Hopkins basically laid out the blueprint for how to beat pavlik which is lateral movement where Pavlik cannot throw his right hand and considering Joe has a pretty good boxing brain he can employ that and beat Pavlik up.
Those Flash KD's were from right hand counters, Pavlik isn't a counter puncher and he comes to you Joe has had the most success with fighters that come to him.

Agreed, pavlik has power at middle weight but joe is bigger and even if pavlik started well joe adapts well during fights.

I feel like pavliks style is a better match up against calzaghe, i mean imt doesnt seem like calzaghe has fought anyone like pavlik before.. and the whole he beat this guys so this guy will beat this guy thing doesnt work, so my opinion is the same as before these guys had their fight

Pavlik is a flatfooted slower Kessler.

                Field day for Calzaghe.

How is the Pavlik's style a good matchup against Calzaghe? To think this you must either have never seen them fight or know nothing about boxing.

Kessler does everything Pavlik does but with more speed and a higher degree of technical skill. It took Calzaghe about 4 rounds to work him out and then he barely lost a round.

He would not need the four rounds against Kelly...

Hopkins didn't even counter Kelly he won by being faster and moving to the left.....

Calzaghe is faster and can move to the left, Calzaghe would have a field day with Pavliks defense and flat footed slower power punching.

I think it was more Hopkins v. Pavlik that did that, although it was the Lacy fight that convinced most sensible people some time earlier. Those who just wrote Lacy off as a 'bum' didn't watch that fight, or give Calzaghe anything like the credit he deserved for winning it in the way he did.

As has been said, what Hopkins did to Pavlik Calzaghe would also do.. only with a lot more punches. Pavlik simply isn't in the same class as either of them, and stepping up to LH doesn't exactly help, either. Boxers can always get lucky; but anyone who bet even money on Pavlik in that match up would be out of their mind.
