I like Michael Jennings; hes a great lad with good taste in music. That being said he is completely out of his depth if this fight is signed. He is a decent domestic fighter, but no where near world championship level. I see this being a quick night for Cotto.
A bit more info on Jennings. He has a swarming style very similar to Hatton and very much relies on getting inside of his opponent, something he shouldn't have a problem with Cotto. He has a couple of nice one punch KOs but being honest I can see this being another Gary Lockett situation. Jennings has beaten absoluetely no one to deserve a shot at a title.
I like Jennings alot and he seems a decent lad!
BUT.. he is WAY out of his depth he just isnt strong enough to fight Cotto, I dont wanna be 2 harsh on the guy as he atleast has his shot at the big time, but he just isnt world class.
Why Does Cotto Always Fight For Vacant Belts....!!!
This is a disturbing Pattern.
Cotto fights all Medium RISK - Medium Reward fighters
EXCEPT ONE TIME, AND HE GOT HIS ASS BEAT..!
Their is a big difference between beating a CURRENT CHAMPION for his belt.
and beating a fellow contender for a belt.
Thats why we have words like CHAMPION and CONTENDER....
and Cotto always fights contenders for his belts...
Love the Sig, I HOPE it works out for us!
He has never had to beat a CHAMPION for his belt.Cotto has
never had to take away something from somebody who earned it.
Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!
The General Concerns I have with Cotto....
Cotto has been on cloud 9 before he was even a champion,
So much hype and money have went in to this kid, and I mean kid, that he has to fight the best in the division now.
No More Unproven Contenders Like Gomez, No More Past their Prime Old Fighters Mosely in which He barely Wins.. No More fighting non active fighters like Judah
He now has to fight Prime,Active, Young , P4P, Highly ranked Fighters....
There is no more grace time.....The Time is Now....
And His First Test is Margarito.... Remember Cotto has never had to beat a Champion For his Title...He has always fought fellow contenders for vacant titles....
(AND HE IS DOING IT AGAIN)
I have been seeing this coming though, but the commentators on HBO are just commenting on the good things they see. Instead of the little things he does wrong that champions will see and will counter, and will not miss. He still gets hit a lot, and wastes a lot of punches. Sometimes he punches from too far out and leaves gaps where he can be countered or beaten to the punch.
Zab Judah Show you how to counter him....
Shane Mosley show you how to pressure him
Demarcus Corely Show you how to accurately hit him...
and Margarito showed how can he handle being hurt by somebody who can finish the job. HE TOOK A KNEE, AND QUIT
..
Steward,Merchant and Lampley make him out to be some phenom, because he's KO'd a bunch of lightweights, contenders, and Past their prime fighters
when they know he's starving to make the weight.
Cotto Flaws....Of Getting HIT alot , and wasting a lot of punches, Is a flaw you can not afford to have against The Elite Fighters....., THATS WHY COTTO AVOIDS FIGHTING PRIME FIGHTERS(CHAMPIONS) FOR THEIR BELTS... AND FIGHT BULL**** FIGHTERS.. FOR VACANT TITLES.
I totally agree pimpin! Its ironic he shoots for the belt after the champ is forced to vacate it! It would have been nice to see him aim for PW in order to get the belt! Thats wishful thinking and one of the reasons boxing is continually getting cancelled on commercial TV.
Glad Cotto is getting another belt around his waiste, sad its Jennings though. Cotto is a great fighter and so far has fought anyone they put in front of him and came out victorious except for Margarito. I see no shame in him losing to Margarito, the guy has an iron chin and nobody else in the WW division would've stood up to the shots Margarito took. Win or lose in the rematch he should fight Berto. Berto's exactly the kind of fighter Cotto looks good against. Young, undefeated and skilled.
Remember, only two fighters of the last seven he fought aren't (former) title holders
