Now that boxing has really become a sport available almost everywhere in the world, there is a lot more competition. It's not just a phase or anything like that, expect it to be like this for a long time. It's not like there is no Americans in boxing, there is still plenty, but they are not the dominant ones anymore.
What happened to american dominance?

I would say the only dominant ones are the Klitchkos and Calzaghe. Now that boxing has really become a sport available almost everywhere in the world, there is a lot more competition. Campbell is a fraud? I need an explanation please. As for Pavlik getting KOed by Abraham: Strongly disagree, time will tell. Stop dreaming with Williams: See previous response. CW is a weak division, big deal.Dawson is likely unbeatable at 175 until I see him with Calzaghe.. Campbell is a fraud. Pavlik will get K0 by Abraham, P. Will I can see him a not long reigning champion so stop dreaming with him, and Cunningham's division sucks unless he fights the Hayemaker.. Note: I am not European, but a native Puerto Rican living in my island
American dominance in boxing has been around since forever. We still have some of the best of the best over hear. Just because Mayweather, RJJ, Hopkins, Toney and Winky arent going to be around forever doesnt mean there wont be a new set.
If I had to make a list of American/North American champs/prospects compared to other countries I am sure it would look pretty good.Comment

It's not really that new of a phenomenon.
Most of the champs in the 70s were not from the U.S. The HWs were dominated by fighters from the states, but the rest of boxing wasn't.
The top 2 fighters of the 70s IMO were Duran and Monzon.
For example, just take a look at the Ring Ratings in 1975.

funny how you skip the divisions that have american champsit's quite a funny phenomena that's happening these years. Boxing used to be dominated by american champions, however, that's no longer the case
Heavyweight - W. Klitscho - Ukraine
Light heavy - Calzaghe - Wales
Super middleweight - Mikkel Kessler - Denmark
Middleweight - Arthur Abraham, Germany/Pavlik USA
Welterweight - Antonio Margarito - Mexico
Light Welter - Hatton - Britain
It's a funny turn boxing has taken these later years. I was wandering what you guys think about it? Is american boxing slowly dying or is the competition from across the sea just getting tougherComment

Their bound to dominate again.
That country is too big.
It's like how Brazil dominate at football, because their better? uh no.......they have the biggest population of any serious football soccer loving nation. The USA don't care so much, and the chinese just like being sick at gymnastics and ping pong.
America has the biggest population of serious boxing nations= boxing widely regarded as a way out of poverty.
Poverty stricken youths + better boxing facilities and funding = sick boxers.
simple equation. The US should dominate.Last edited by sparked_85; 11-13-2008, 06:23 PM.Comment
