Was that not the case with Hopkins though?? Calzaghe has never got any credit from people on here for that win, even after Hopkins showed hes got plenty left in the Pavlik fight.

If Dawson beats Calzaghe (which he wont ) he should get the same amount of credit that Calzaghe got! He ll have beaten the best LHW in the world but "Hes old", "Hes past his prime", "Dawson couldnt beat a prime Calzaghe"...blah blah blah..all the excuses we got about the Hopkins fight..

Thats one of the reason that i made this thread, People have a way of discrediting other boxers win (Like they did when Joe beat B-hop). Am pretty sure we would have the odd "Dawson wouldnt have beaten a prime Calzaghe" if the fight happen anywhere around 2009.

I think the excuses are ****** as well. For any fight! If Dawson does beat Calzaghe u wont hear me moaning like a little girl about it.

But i still dont understand how people will give Dawson credit for that win and wont give Joe (or any British boxer) credit for his wins! He is 37 himself! He beat a 42 yr old and a 39 yr old, not much difference...where Dawson is 26 (i think) and if he beats the 37/38 yr old Calzaghe everyone will say hes the second coming, its ****ing ******.

Well thats my point, Because if the fight happens in mid-2009 Joe would be 37by that time, With his injuries(Well-documented) ...why should dawson get a lot of credit??

But other posters have pointed me to the fact that Joe is Top 2 or 3 P4P so Dawson should be credited if he beats joe.....But wasnt B-hop top 3 P4P when he fought joe C???

Exactly! And not really thought to be to far past his prime after the Tarver and Winky fight! It was only after the Calzaghe fight that everyone turned round and said Hopkins was past his prime blah blah blah....then he showed again in the Pavlik fight that he still has it!!

I m not just going on like this cause its Joe i m not a "nutthugger" (****ing ****** phase lol), i m going on like this because there are some ****** people that post on here, about 20% of posters on here have some sense, the rest are either young and have seen 1 boxing match in their life, haters for whatever reason or just generally ******! Its hard to have a decent conversation on here sometimes lol.

I agree. It would mean a lot for Dawson, though I also think he would not be fighting a 1) motivated and hungry Calzaghe or 2) a prime Calzaghe at all. I mean, lets face it, Calzaghe's prime was many years ago now. He has not taken a spectacular amount of punishment, which is as much due to his underrated defensive skill than not having had hard fights. His style is not suited to the typical over-thirty fighter and he loses his power each fight due to his busted up hands.

Nonetheless, saying all that, he is still one of the best fighters, if not the best, out there today and would give anyone a very hard fight. I think the only way Calzaghe would lose would be if he came in just a bit too old and tired, which is highly possible if they fight. Otherwise I honestly believe that Calzaghe has just a little bit too much experience for Dawson right now. He still has the speed to match him, but he also has the unusual angles and stamina to really trouble Dawson I think. This is a fight that Dawson could definitely win, no doubt, but if they both came in at their best now, I would take Calzaghe slightly. Dawson doesn't have the defensive prowess of B-Hop, even though he does have good defense, and his lapses in concentration could allow Calzaghe to steal many rounds which otherwise could have gone to Dawson or been even.

Great fight if it is made, but only if Calzaghe came in highly motivated, which honestly, after fighting two of the greatest legends modern boxing has produced in B-Hop and Jones, I don't think would happen. Nonetheless, if it does get made and Dawson won it, he should get all the credit in the world for beating a truly brilliant fighter who would have beaten just about every other fighter. Just as the Calz/Hop fight has shown, people are odd when it comes to giving respect for a win. That has as much to do with the large amount of Calzone hate on this board as anything though I think. Either way, whoever won that fight should get a very large amount of praise indeed!
