    If Calzaghe/Dawson happens by mid-2009.

Would dawson be taken on a prime Joe calzaghe or not??? And if he beats calzaghe would that add anything or prove anything/says anything about Dawson???

    Am just curious..

He wouldn't be facing a prime Calzaghe but Calzaghe is close enough to his prime for a Dawson win to mean something, he's also still considered a top 3 pound for pound fighter so a win for Dawson would mean a lot.

Because at that stage Calzaghe would be 37 and with the history or injuries and talk of retirement the win might not mean much to dawson(Thats if he actually fight and beat Joe)..

To me it would not be a prime Calzaghe he would be taking on, that said, if he won it would certainly say something about Dawson as some of the new up and coming generation have not been cutting it with the older hands as of late...

Be prepared for some hypocrisy if this thread takes off...lol

It would mean a lot, Calzaghe is a top 3 pound for pound fighter right now.

Calzaghe is considered the best Lightheavyweight in the world by most experts, pundits, organizations, fans. Prime does not matter at this point. If Calzaghe is considered the best LHW and Dawson beats him, that means Dawson beat the best LHW. Unless there is someone else people put above Calzaghe at that point which I seriously doubt.

I alway believe when you reach a certain age then boxers needs to hang them up especially if you have made enough money to sustain you and your family.

Money is one of the major motivation in boxing and if the hunger isnt there anymore then there is no point in carrying on, Dawson beating a demotivate Joe isnt going to give him much to write home about unless joe is like 49-0 and he wanted to break Marciano's record...something i believe can really motivate him.

well, we certainly have to give Dawson some credit for a win over Calzaghe if he did win.

but I have thought that Calzaghe has been going downhill slightly since the Kessler-Lacy fights(his prime), so I wouldnt give Dawson full credit...but if he could do it, it would be pretty impressive.

It would definitely mean a lot for Dawson, Joe has shown a lot over the past couple of years with wins against Jones Jr, Hopkins, Kessler and Lacy, so is still close enough to his prime for it to mean a lot and would surely make Dawson a star. Plus I think some Americans would make Dawson their new God for taking Calzaghe's 0 which they really resent him still having

                  Won’t happen though

Nothing much to say agree with you there.
