Miguel Cotto vs Michael Jennings for vacant title

    Cotto vs Jennings?

    Wednesday, November 12 2008

    By Karl Freitag

WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams is expected to officially give up the WBO 147lb belt today. He will face Verno Phillips for the WBO 154lb interim title on November 29th at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. The vacant welterweight championship is expected to be filled by the winner of a proposed February clash between #1 rated Miguel Cotto and #2 rated Michael Jennings.

Good comeback fight for Cotto. He doesn't need a really tough fight right now, especially considering his fight after this one will most likely be the Margarito rematch. That would also make Cotto-Margarito II a unification considering they both win their upcoming bouts.

Step #1 of the comeback, WAR COTTO!

So long as he does not step back in the ring with a certain chingon from Tijuana, Cotto can probably beat anyone out there.

Michael Jennings isn't bad, but Cotto dosn't have to stoop that low, even for a comeback. But like you said, should get him settled.

Don't know much about Jennings, but I'm getting the sense that he's no match for Cotto.

I'm a little disappointed that he's not taking a tougher fight, but I'm glad that he's finally going to get back in the ring and fight for a belt. Marg/Cotto 2 being a unification bout makes me smile.

Apperently Michael Jennings is a perfect opponnet for Cotto, but when mentioned as a tune up for Williams, most people said that he was awful. Then when he fought someone else, Williams was criticzed for ducking lol. NSB ftw.

Williams is ****** if he gives up his title though. Awful decision if he does.

didnt know Williams got brutally manhandled in his previous fight when Jennings was a thought for him.

would you really rather him fight a mandatory or against another champion? if he decides to come back to 147 he will be mandatory for someone or can fight clottey. paul is giving boxing fans a better matchup to watch.

Actually no. Jennings was an opponnet for 11/29 or was being considered. Williams got manhandled by Quintana, but then KOd him.

I think this should be for the interim belt because that way, Marg and Cotto can have a rematch, then Williams is forced to fight the winner right, which I'm sure he'd be perfectly be willing.
