Great article which weighed up both the pros and cons of Calzaghe's career in an unbiassed nature making it a good read.

You gotta be kidding me! I cannot believe it! He beat patsies, overrated and "has been" over the hill fighters and you call him an all time great? At most he can be called a good champ.... But an all time great? Come on! He can't even punch properly, rabbit or slapping punches and all.....Again I am shocked and I cannot believe it .....especially comming from a good writer like you.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!. Joe Calslappy has fought 40 unknown fighters, and then he fights two legends that are 40 and 43 way past their prime. IF the Jones and Hopkins fight took place in the mid 90’s or even the late 90’s he would have lost. His dad Enzo has protected his son by advising him not to fight in the US in 90’s and early 2000.. To me he is good but not good enough to be in the all time great not when you are making a name out of fighting bums and two legends that are way past their respected prime. THIS ARTICLE IS A SHAME TO BOXING……..

roy did....but it had been done before to him......

much respect to calzaghe, but i cannot rank him higher than jones or hopkins on an ATG list, and he has victories over both......

Oh really? Or could it be that you just don't know who they are? Seems you need to do your research and get up to speed. I've heard of most of the people Joe fought, even before he fought them. If you don't know them, then it's probably your boxing knowledge that's lacking.

Well let’s see Chris Eubank and Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler who I did not know who he was until last year. Like I said Joe “Calslappy” is a great European fighter that is it!!

Very good article, fair in both crediting and criticising, and doesn't go overboard on either.

Calzaghe's usually listed in fights at 5"11 1/2 and I was a tad surprised to see him listed as 6" for the RJJ bout, as they pointed it out as an advantage which seemed dodge. I really don't think he's 6"1.

Anyways great article. ATG is such a tricky thing to truly gauge and compare in terms of so many old fighters, this provides insight and demonstrations as to just what one would have to consider when determining ATG and roughly where.

Saying 50-100 seems a lowish wide bracket considering the clearly better knowledge the write has over others giving more specific numbers. Perhaps a slightly more pinned down small bracket would have been nice, and would be for the future articles on modern day greats. I can already see ODL getting more accolade then I'd give him btw lol.
