Prime Roy Jones at his best - 1996 fight against Eric Lucas

If 1996 Roy could fight 2008 Roy it would be over in 1 round. Look at the energy, the reflexes the legs, the combinations. Prime Roy could nail you fro 10 feet away he was so cat quick.

No way does Calzaghe put his hands down and clown against this Roy. He would get caught with a upercut so fast.

Ive seen almost all of Roy's fights. Prime Roy was the best thing Ive seen in my lifetime.

But you have to take into account the opposition. Eric Lucas is not Calzaghe. Not by a long shot.

The Eric Lucas fight was my least favorite Roy fight of his title reign at 168.

yeah, i was a jones fan in the 90's when he was prime roy, i watched that fight with lucas when it happened, it was like hopkins did to kelly pavlik but like the diggler said, lucas was not an elite guy. i'm not sure lucas could beat sven ottke, and he lost to markus beyer and kessler.

              diggler, you're an allright bloke

I would have to disagree. It would have to be the 2nd Montell Griffin fight. Go back to the 1st fight, although Roy was carrying the fight and about to win , he took some good shots. Griffin was no pushover, he was pretty good. Anyway. In the 2nd fight, I saw a very hungry and motivated Roy Jones Jr. The outcome spoke 4 itself. He destroyed Griffin. That version of Jones would've ****ed Calzaghe up without a doubt.

I have a problem with the fact that everyone someone mentions Jones at his total peak of powers in his prime it is a fight against a bum. He also beat a small very green Hopkins, and James Toney that could hardly move let alone throw a decent punch or pressure Jones.

He had great skill at his peak but was never tested that much. Funny how as soon as he gets tests in recent years he past his best.

Still a great fighter though. Just lacks a killer touch more, more a style machine.

ANOTHER Calzaghe bashing thread...... Are people really that mad? I'll bet most of the people trashing him saying a prime Roy would kill him are the same people who picked Roy to win last week.

By the way, a Prime Roy beats a Prime Joe, but thats not the point..
