Antonio Margarito respect thread

I like watching Margarito, but i always keep thinking to myself ''Christ! Anyone with a good defense could beat this guy!''
Margarito comes forward and throws a lot of shots. His long looping punches can be slipped and countered if you have the right timing however you not going to hurt him or stop his work rate but you can try to slow it down by moving and not letting him set his feet.
I always thought Winky Wright and Floyd Mayweather had the perfect style for volume punchers like Antonio Margarito. The reason being is that when he goes into that shell like defence the other guy is wasting energy then he uses the Jab to keep you of balance on you way in. Winky Wright is great with volume Punchers that why Shane Mosley was helpless with him. Winky Cant hurt Margarito but i think if Tony didn't outwork him he could box Margarito to a split decision a close fight. The only thing that worries me about any fight with WInky at this point is that nobody really knows what type of condition he's in if he's old or just lost a fight. But if Winky fought Margarito like he fought Tito Trinidad he could win. Volume Punchers always fall right into the trap of his defence Shane Mosley,Felix Trinidad,Sam Solimon,Jermain Taylor all those guys really had problems with Winky.
Winky needs to get his ass back down to 154 and call this guy out!Comment

[QUOTE=The_Bringer;4307538]My girlfriend is a huge Cotto fan and watched that fight with me in shock of tony's ability to take it clean on the chin. She hates him now of course, she thinks he's got one of those "Terminator" type endoskeletons under his skin.
Lol, So do most of my girl cousins......so did your GF jump on you when Cotto lost?Comment

It was off how surprised everyone was on the board when margarito stopped cotto. All us margarito fans were saying what he was capable of but i guess you all ignored it and Margarito bit everyone on their ass.
Be honest people, you want to see him fail.Comment

She pretty much hates Margarito these days. But she thinks he's cute.
She thinks Cotto will win the rematch.
She hates Hopkins (my favorite) and expected Kelly to KO him.
She knows fuck all about this sport, but she's a casual fan.Comment

Most people do for some reason. I've got nothing but respect for the man myself. And I'm not even 1% Mexican, I just know how to call a spade a spade.Comment

I dont like him beign so overrated, but I do repect him, specially that Chin, is ridiculous!!!!!Comment

This guy doesn't seem to get much respect around here, aside from his Mexican compatriots. Most people like to **** on him because he lacks technical polish and skill.
But this is a man who is deserving of our respect.
I don't think anybody in their right mind would ever call Margarito a tactical fighter or an "All Time Great", Jim Lampley sumed it up best when he called Tony a "high class brawler" and said "he knows how to box, he'd just rather fight".
Tony reminds me of a working class throwback fighter from the late 50's or early 60's, something of a modern day LaMotta. (Though I know there is no comparison in terms of record, so don't jump my ass.)
Even in the face of serious setback (such as the loss to Williams), tons of negative criticism, and never having gotten the top billing until recently, Tony continues to march forward and fight his way back into the mix. And that to me is something that is really respectable.
And that chin? Did I mention this guy's unbelievable ability to take a punch? How does he do it? Honestly I think Margarito has one of the best chins in the history of the sport, and certainly one of the best of the last 25 years. He smiles at you when you land bombs.
So post in here and show your respect for Tony. He may not be the most skill man in the ring these days but he's given us a fair share of exciting moments in the ring. Whether it was damn near knocking off Lujan's ear, beating Cintron back into the fetal position for the second time, or giving us one of the best come from behind victories in recent years against Cotto in a modern boxing classic.
Margarito is probably the best example of a fighter I have huge respect for..without really being a fan or an anti-fanComment
