    Antonio Margarito respect thread

This guy doesn't seem to get much respect around here, aside from his Mexican compatriots. Most people like to **** on him because he lacks technical polish and skill.

But this is a man who is deserving of our respect.

I don't think anybody in their right mind would ever call Margarito a tactical fighter or an "All Time Great", Jim Lampley sumed it up best when he called Tony a "high class brawler" and said "he knows how to box, he'd just rather fight".

Tony reminds me of a working class throwback fighter from the late 50's or early 60's, something of a modern day LaMotta. (Though I know there is no comparison in terms of record, so don't jump my ass.)

Even in the face of serious setback (such as the loss to Williams), tons of negative criticism, and never having gotten the top billing until recently, Tony continues to march forward and fight his way back into the mix. And that to me is something that is really respectable.

And that chin? Did I mention this guy's unbelievable ability to take a punch? How does he do it? Honestly I think Margarito has one of the best chins in the history of the sport, and certainly one of the best of the last 25 years. He smiles at you when you land bombs.

So post in here and show your respect for Tony. He may not be the most skill man in the ring these days but he's given us a fair share of exciting moments in the ring. Whether it was damn near knocking off Lujan's ear, beating Cintron back into the fetal position for the second time, or giving us one of the best come from behind victories in recent years against Cotto in a modern boxing classic.

Nothing but respect for Tony from this man. The guy's a machine, he may not be flashy but he gets the job done. He gave me the worst night of my boxing life, but I grew nothing for respect for him. Was a class act through the whole thing, and I'm happy that he finally got his well deserved due. Just wish it wasn't at the expense of Cotto.

He's the only fighter I geniuely don't like. From his personality, style (especially this), and overrated by his fans.

He had a pretty ****ty resume, but I give him major props for him KOing Cotto because I believe he was behind on the scorecards even if he wasn't. The Clottey win is pretty good. Antonio Diaz > Kermit Cintron though.

Joshua Clottey and his trainer Kwame Asante had this to say about the Tijuana Tornado, Antonio Margarito.

My girlfriend is a huge Cotto fan and watched that fight with me in shock of tony's ability to take it clean on the chin. She hates him now of course, she thinks he's got one of those "Terminator" type endoskeletons under his skin.

He's certainly overrated a lot by his fans, especially since the Cotto TKO. But I'm not talking abilities or greatness, just a little show of respect for him.

And I agree about Diaz, I just mentioned the Kermit KO because I hate Kermit.
