he has chin and defense also, and is more than competent on the back foot if need be... and his biggest weapon is his boxing brain imo, when he's not resorting to petty showboating and machismo

Normally anyone who says "back foot" is a troll trying to sound smart.

        But you aren't wrong here.

Although his best weapon is probably his brain, his footwork is highly underrated.

Yea I feel the same way. Reading all these posts about how Roy is overrated and acting like he was at his best against Joe is a damn shame.

You post like a 12 yr old calling everyone trolls. Immature, grow the **** up dude. Just because people don't share the same opinion as you doesn't mean that they don't know anything about boxing. You're acting very childish. Feel free to respond back but I'm not talking to you anymore because you don't respect anyone elses opinion but your own.. Jerk

              Damn. I'm a jerk? I didn't realize.

**** man. I feel bad now. I mean I'm a huge Jerk I guess. As compared to the hordes of trolls saying things like:

              Roy has no heart
Roy was overrated/Joe is an ATG for this win.
Roy was never any good/Joe is an ATG for this win
All yanks are ****** and this fight proves that Europeans are better
Nevermind the usual racists laughing their asses off at a white guy beating up a black guy.

Or the trolls ignoring that plenty of us knew Roy was shot for about THREE years now and have been saying that over and over and over.

Joe deserves respect. But not for THIS fight. It adds very little to his legacy other than name.

Most of Joe's fans tend to be insular, ignorant, aggressive and know very little about boxing. It's hard for people to give Joe his due when they act this way.

Roy is and always will be better than Joe Calzaghe..
He will be remembered as the best fighter in his generation and the best fighter of the 90's

What Joe will be remembered for is fighting weak oppostion for 90 percent of his career.. **** that.. 95 percent.. and the last 2-3 yrs he decided to step it up sloowwwlyyy..

Its such a shame that he waited too long.. Please dont go and blame his promoter.. U can always fire ur promoter

the peoople who think Calzaghe could beat or even make a close fight with a prime Roy prolly think that Hanshaw could win about 5 rounds with a prime Roy too, if they go by with what happend on saturday night...

THE ROY THAT CALZAGHE BEAT IS THE SAME ROY WHO STRUGGLED WITH HANSHAW.

Calzaghe is a bit of a special fighter though, and I think that by trying to pigeonhole him as a "pressure fighter" you're doing him something of a disservice. What happened on Saturday night was pretty simple: A past-prime Joe Calzaghe beat a further past-prime Roy Jones Jr in a big money fight featuring a big name. But that's no reason to then assault the career of a talented fighter in a fit of pique.

The thing about Joe is that he had a bit of everything in him especially in his prime. He could apply pressure with a volume of punches, he was a very accomplished boxer, he was a murderous puncher (which may be hard to stomach now but he was known for his power back in the day). He's a fast counterpuncher, an awkward and tricky southpaw and had an iron chin. He had great footwork and could fight going forwards, backwards and sideway and he had superb reflexes.

More than all of that he was always a superb boxing tactician. He fought in a way which nullified his opponent, no matter what their style. And he was always a ferocious competitor and a born winner.

I think you should take a look at yourself before you label other posters "trolls". Especially considering that this topic title implies that those who disagree with you are "idiots" who "just started watching boxing".
