There is a nostalgia with old fighters that people hold with fear when talking about new fighters. Calzaghe, Hopkins, Jones, Mayweather etc all being great fighters who could've mixed it with any of the fighters of the past 100 years doesnt diminish the accomplishments and greatness of the old fighters. All it does is demonstrate the strength of boxing over the years. Calzaghe is an all time great fighter, so is Mayweather, so is Hopkins and so is Jones. Their accomplishments inside the boxing ring are comparable to many other fighters who are considered all time greats. We'll never know how they would favour against them in the ring, all we can do is put them into context of how they did in their own time. Too many people judge the fighters of yesteryear with rose-tinted spectacles of nostalgia. They lost, they fought mandatories and bums, they fought too long, they hit the deck and they put in laboured performances too.
do people understand what atg means??

EXACTLYeverytime a modern fighter wins a fight they say"man they gotta be to 20 atg"??????????do you understand how many great fighters there have been???? you cant just win a fight a just ahead of 50 other great fighters who've had numerous ring wars..its not about being undefeated..**** steve otte retired undefeated is he a atg???
The term ''All Time Great'' is used to a completely ridiculous degree.
People should say Modern Great.
Roy Jones Jr
Joe Calzaghe
Bernard Hopkins
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Manny Pacquiao
Oscar De La Hoya
Are NOT all time great fighters. To say that ANY of them are is just ADMISSION OF IGNORANCE by anyone who claims them to be.
History and HISTORY ALONE is what truly determines the difference between a great fighter and an all time great.
It is NOT the job for Ignorant fanboy's to determine.

Bearing in mind the accomplishments of all of these fighters, some of which best the accomplishments of fighters who ARE considered all time greats...how can you claim in seriousness that none of these fighters deserve the right to be considered all time greats?EXACTLY

Im not at all claiming that they dont deserve it.Of course they do.Youre totally missunderstanding what it is that Im saying.
Im a fan of all the guys I mentiond.
Im saying that whilst they are definatley current great fighters it's time that ultimately will distinguish them as all time greats.
I have no doubt it will,Im just saying that they are not currently at that point.Comment

But thats needless. You can compare their accomplishments to those of the fighters of yesteryear. You can compare what they won, what they achieved, where they achieved it etc. This isnt like a piece of music or a film standing the test of time, if their achievements are comparable now, they will remain to be so.Im not at all claiming that they dont deserve it.Of course they do.Youre totally missunderstanding what it is that Im saying.
