    How Come Fighters Like...

how come fighters like Joe Calzaghe, Bernard Hopkins etc. can be elite fighters in the mid-late thirties, but fighters like RJJ, Ali, Holyfield and Leonard etc. all went down hill at that time?

How can Joe can throw 1,000 punches a fight at 36?

    Why couldn't Holyfield/Jones throw 1,000 punches a fight 36?

it is just a conditioning thing or what? Or is it a styles thing, thats just Joe's style.

    i don't get it...

Hopkins and Calzaghe never got beat up. Neither were really in any "wars" their entire lives.

Also, people like Leonard and Roy Jones relied heavily on their reflexes, which deteriorates quickly when you get older, whereas hopkins and calzaghe rely more on other things (hopkins his great defense, technical skills, calzaghe his stamina, awkward style, etc.).

Of course, conditioning has a lot to do with it. And also some people are simply different, their bodies age differently then others.

Holyfield was fighting very well late into his thirties, so Im not sure what youre talking about there...

some fighters take care of themselves more, dont take as much punishment, decide to not do drugs, etc.

also, what Calzaghe does is that he substitutes quality for quantity. yes, he does slap with punches a lot. but 2 clean slaps>1 grazing normal shot, and thats why hes so successful with his style.
Calzaghe also seems very relaxed in the ring, that could help explain his stamina.

alot of what cal throws aren't power shots, but once in a while when he gets you close he lets one go that goes boom.the sad part about roy is, he never really learned how to fight a different way.its like jordan, he was this incredible athlete that could do whatever the hell he wanted to in his youth, but as he got older, he got wiser, his jump shot got better, and he developed the fade away.

But why isn't Calzaghe showing signs age? Why did it take so long for Hopkins to show signs of age? This isn't the norm..

I think it's because black people age faster than white people. (see Stuntin' and his beliefs on this sort of thing)

Personally, I still believe Asian breasts age at LEAST 3x as slow as caucasian breasts. Damn, 40 yr old Asian women have the **** of a 21 yr old caucasian chick.
