Good thread, you and I think alike. I just made a thread about this saying how Hopkins to me is OVERALL a better fighter then RJJ, looking at their entire careers from 1990 to 2008.

One guy had super human ablities but only lasted for so long while the other guy was just more disciplined and consistant and a studen of the game and remains competitive into his 44th birthday.

Thats a great question. I voted RJJ. Hopkins does have the longevity and probably the better resume now but was the most physically gifted fighter, possibly ever. So while Hopkins has never clearly lost and is still one of the best fighting Roy was in a class of his own in his prime, he just didn't accomplish all that he could have. Imagine how he would be seen had he given Hopkins the rematch at 50/50 and won.

              Shoulda, woulda, coulda........

Bernard is having the last laugh now, and has been ever since he slayed Tarver and Jones was slayed by the guy Hopkins TKO'd 10 years ago with Johnson.

              I'd go with Bernard's durability.

Roy was amazing in his prime, and certainly more gifted than 'Nard. If he retired after the Ruiz fight he would've been looked upon much better than he is now, and certainly years above Hopkins.

But what Hopkins is doing is no cakewalk either. How many fighters do you know who could beat Tarver, Winky, lose a close SD to Calzaghe, and beat Pavlik all beyond the age of 40?

In the hallowed halls that Roy is in his place in history, he has few contemporaries.

              Same goes for Bernard.

I guess it's just which style you prefer.

plus, Hopkins even as an old man aint gettin dominated or beat up. gotta be pretty proud of that.

a part of me would want the Roy scenario, but honestly, youre never gonna be considered the best fighter of all time nowadays, no matter what you do. Ray Robinson is probebly going to always be considered the p4p best ever. but being the best ever old fighter? now thats something that people could really remember you by.
everything you said was on point but changing subjects for a sec ya boy tony the tiger will be in a world of trouble against toney on dec. 13th.......trust me and toney will be champ in 09.
