Oscar de la Hoya appreciation thread

Just to take a break from the endless Joe-Roy threads, I thought I would start this one.

I just read a thread where ppl where throwing around **** like "Oscar lost all his big fights" and all that crap. What a joke. I understand some ppl hate him now because he has let the business side take over, but you have to at least acknowledge how great this man has been. He is a true legend and an all time great. He is another of the fighter's I have grown up watching and I cannot believe the attitudes of some of the "boxing fans" on here towards his career achievements. Dislike him as a person, sure, but to say he has had anything short of a fantastic career? How ridiculous is that?

Wins over Quartey, Vargas, Mayorga, JCC, Leija, Whitaker, Carr, Gatti, Sturm, should have gotten the wins against Mosley in their second fight and Tito. On top of this he fights to a SD loss against the p4p number 1 guy in the sport despite being past his best.

Oscar is an ATG ppl, stop with the fkn hating.

I like him as a fighter but the Pac fight has just clouded alot of things for me.

Still, it's easy to forget he was one of the best fighters of this era.

    Good thread.

Once upon a time Oscar De La Hoya was one of the best fighters out there.

He has a record that speaks for itself.

But I do take the piss with him in terms of fighting Pacquiao and trying to sell it as a fair fight. Pumping all this money into 24/7, and the promos and tv spots, just so he can beat down a natural 130lbs guy to "avenge" Barrera and Morales. Gay soap operas aren't as gay as this crap.

Taking the piss is fine, its not that which I have a problem with. It is ppl trying to make out like this man has not had a ridiculous career. Its like "WOW, he lost a couple of fights, he must be a terrible fighter". Look at the guys he got beat by, that speaks for itself.

            Oh I bet you do.

For real though, Oscar was amazing in his prime. He's easily one of the top 10 of the last 15 years.

I still think he schooled Tito, and should've won the MOsley rematch.

That said the Whittaker win was a gift if I ever saw one.

Still doesn't discredit him in any way. His left hook was a thing of beauty, I bet Vargas still wakes up in sweats at night from that ****.

say what you will about oscar but do NOT give him credit for the sturm fight... sturm got robbed.

i like de la hoya, but all the biggest fights he was in, he lost.

mayweather, hopkins, mosley (twice, even though he should have won one), tito

any of those fights that he lost would have been the biggest win of his career.

not saying de la hoya never beat anyone good, just he never REALLY made his claim among the TOP TOP guys. De la hoya has had opportunities to reach #1 p4p but never made the best of them.

Agree 100 percent. So what if he takes an easy fight at the end? It's the END of his career.

Exactly dude, such a key statement. If it was only the events at the end of your career that defined you would there even be any great fighters?

                    No there would not.

Too many idiots with fanboy agendas ought to take that statement and tattoo it to their faces.
