Everybody KNOWS this

honestly sometimes before a big fight i ALWAYS think of what unexpectedly could happen but probably wont and my thoughts were of Jones knocking Calzaghe out early and when he went down i was thinking OMG

the reason i felt like this was because i did not expect to see Hatton getting Koed by PBF or Calzaghe getting dropped by Hopkins but it happened

i think both Hatton and Calzaghe are not good enough defensively to hang with prime fighters like PBF,Hopkins,Jones etc nothing against them but they are too open defensively imo
Calzaghe going down early was not surprising to me, I said in the months leading up to the fight that Jones would want to start fast to get Calzaghe's respect and I noticed about 10 or 20 seconds before the knockdown that Jones feinted a right hand to see how Calzaghe reacted to him throwing a right hand, the next time he threw a right hand he knocked Calzaghe down.

Prime Calzaghe would have given anyone trouble though, he's an awkward guy to fight.

yeah id agree with all that ive been guilty of dismissing his chances in the past against someone like Toney but the shape Toney used to come in he would of had a chance at decisioning Toney with his workrate and Boxing skills i think Toney beats a lot of people when they get pre-occupied with trying to hit him cause they end up standing right infront of him in range and there to be hit

but then again Calzaghe is that open he could pound on James for 11 rounds and end up like Prince Charles or Jirov

A Toney in tip top shape would have beaten Calzaghe but if Toney came in unmotivated and out of shape, Calzaghe wins.

Definitely, Toney did that quite a lot.

No doubt Roy woulda dogged Joe back in the day.

I think a PRIME Jones knocks Calzaghe out no question. A stationary Roy lasted 12 rounds with Calzaghe, Roy wouldn't have respected Calzaghe's power. At 39 Roy was still able to hurt Calzaghe and a prime Roy was one of the best finishers i have ever seen.

It's not a certainty, Calzaghe isn't in his prime himself but it's definitely a possibility.

Joe beat Roy with one hand behind his back, and with his hand down by his side. I don't think Roy could beat him now and I don't think he could beat him back then.
