What makes Joe special to retire now? He beat a 43 year old BHOP and a 39 year old shot Roy Jones. It does not seal his legacy.

Let him fight on, there is Dawson, Zsolt Erdei, Glen Johnson, and even Pavlik.

Joe might be 36 years old but like the HBO commentaros said last night, he is a fresh 36 y/o.

If I were Calzaghe I would fight just to milk the system for as many millions as possible, who cares what a bunch of bitter nobody haters think.

this is bull. Okay so Joe is a great fighter I agree, but why is he picking on legends way past their prime like Hopkins and Jones. Yes I know he is not a young buck himself but he didn't have a resume until his last 6 fights. Why did he duck the Ghost [ pre-loss] and why did he avoid the question on fighting Chad Dawson. Same goes to Oscar but at least he has been battletested fighting champ after champ. Can anyone explain this?

Lewis wants him to retire cause he doesen't want Calzaghe to take his place in British Sports History.

David Haye, who cares what the f*ggot ass thinks.

Well ya see old chum...... Hopkins has been in some of his best form for years lately, and Jones, until Sat night, was still looking fairly good. I don't think anyone but Calzaghe could have overwhelmed him like that. And a Jones, even at 50% is a heck of a lot better than most, and made a very credible opponent. Many thought that Jones might win.

Calzaghe, unlike Lewis, hasn't had any very narrow and miraculous escapes from being slaughtered, like Lewis had against Klitschko, so the fact that Lewis retired had nothing to do with "having nothing left to prove" since he had a lot to prove, which remained very much in question after the Klitschko fight. In an interview a few days before the fight, he looked in, and said he was, in top shape, and intended to fight on for another few years yet.............. We all know what happened.

Calzaghe would never allow such a thing, he has a terrific ability to "up" his level as needed during a fight until the other guy wilts and/or is reduced to despairing one punch "Hail Marys". This happened with Jones, who actually hurt Calzaghe, and with Hopkins, and with Kessler too.
