Ruthless my purple ass. He's just a slapper nothing more. The hand injuries were all fake injuries.A great fighter. One of the top 3 British of all time in any weight.
He career could have been even better, had he not been unlucky with numerous injuries and not milked by Frank Warren early on he could have faced bigger fights earlier. But that takes nothing away from him and what he's doing now. But he has beaten everyone he has boxed and that is all he can do. 46-0.
He is an old fashioned fighter. He doesn't have an entourage of yes men and various coachs and experts, he doesn't need that. He has and needs only his dad working his backside off. No rubbish, no flashness just good old solid boxing.
He has amazing mental strength and confidence, lots of nerve and bottle and an iron chin. He can take a punch, he has great speed, has proven he can get up off the floor and win. He has great workrate, stamina and an awkward southpaw style that both confuses and causes problems for the other fighter. And he has a very underrated boxing brain and the ability to change tactics during the fight, in fact just fight off his natural instincts and judge how to win that way. It's proven that it works.
And one more thing that people miss or overlook - Joe Calzaghe is a killer. He is a quiet man outside the ring but inside he is a killer, he is ruthless.Comment

Pretty good slapper though, huh? Got look at Roy's face. Hopkins spent 12 rounds running, hiding and turning his back from the same slapper.
He humiliated Roy Jones last night, he is ruthless. A killer. Jones was all nicey nice with Joe but come fight time Joe wins and railroads him outa the way. Ruthless.Comment

I wonder why this is the first time we seened you around since a prime Mayweather beat the **** out of a prime Hatton? There are no excuses for Roy Jones, Jr. He was magnificent in his recent fight against Trinidad. He was ready for Joe C. And, who really dodged who "back in their primes?" There is much evidence to conclude that Roy could have made that fight...if he had wanted to.
There are no excuses for Roy. He was beaten and beaten soundly. The verdict is in. Calzaghe was always the man to beat....and nobody ever has. Calzaghe is going to the Hall of Fame will be considered an All Time Great, whether you like it or not.
Get the fuck out of here, you pathetic vulture.Comment

Does this look like the Roy that fought JoeC? Joe C was knockdown in the 1st round. Just imagine if Jones was in his prime, more snap, more power, and faster.Comment

I will give Joe the respect and credit that he beat Jones last night but you have to remember RJ is way out of his prime, shot, and the KO losses made him more careful.
About the Trinidad fight, Felix went up in weight and has been inactive for awhile.Comment

Im from the Uk and feel a little embarrested to say i was rooting for jones to win, and by ko/tko.
Before the fight i had feelings if the calzaghe that fought hopkins and a decent Jones jr who shows glitches of his prime ( like he did at times ) showed up it would be a painfull night for the welshman.
Instead a similar calzaghe who fought lacy turned up, full of confidence and relentless. We all knew calzaghe could take a great shot, but after being droped in the first it didnt seem to dent his confidence in taking on roys power. Droping his hands allowing Jones to land with great snappy shots especially in the first half of the fight.
I still think primed Jones would win, quite comfortably. Although he did show shades of his prime last night and the way joe coped with him. I cant help but think he would have given the jones of old a hard time.
Now im hoping calzaghe retires. He has nothing else to prove! Hes beaten every oponent put infront of him, and now you cant argue he wasnt in competitive fights. Who else is there to fight, Carl Froch, who is obviously a few levels below joe and in my opinion is abit over rated. In all fairness hopkins had his chance and lost. As close as it was that fight was a bore! Who would want to see that again. So one more name, Chad dawson. Dawson vs calzaghe would be a huge event, and probably a harder fight than the jones fight was last night, although its simply a risk calzaghe doesnt need to take now. Maybe 47 and 0 would be pushing it.Last edited by 123tyson123; 11-09-2008, 01:40 PM.Comment
