  • Better Legacy: Hopkins or Jones?

    Who's got the better legacy?

    WINS

    Hopkins

Glenn Johnson- In his prime with a record of 32-0, Hopkins does the impossible and TKO's him in the 11th.

Felix Trinidad- In his prime with a record of 40-0, previously detonated William Joppy, a career Middleweight with a record of 32-1-1, whom Hopkins himself couldn't KO. Hopkins TKO's him in the 12th.

Oscar De La Hoya- Living legend turned ***** in fishnets, with a record of 37-3-0, clearly blown up beyond his natural weight class. Hopkins KO's him in the 9th.

Antonio Tarver- Lineal Light Heavyweight Champion with a record of 24-3-0, the Roy Jones slayer. Hopkins embarasses and outclasses him en route to a 12 round unanimous decision.

Winky Wright- P4P #2 at the time of the fight with a record of 51-3-1. Clearly overblown beyond his natural weight class. Hopkins wins a lopsided UD in an ugly brawl.

Kelly Pavlik- Undefeated knockout artist with a 34-0 record, and reigning Middleweight Champion. Fighting just 4lbs north of the 166lbs limit where he looked good against Taylor in the rematch. Hopkins embarasses and outclasses him en route to a 12 round unanimous decision.

    Roy Jones Jr.

Bernard Hopkins - Hopkins has a 21-1 record, and Roy outclasses him en route to a one sided unanimous decision.

James Toney - Toney has a record of 44-0-2 and Jones embarasses him even worse than Hopkins en route to a 12 round unanimous decision.

Montell Griffin - Griffin is 26-0 at the time of the first fight in which Jones was disqualified, in the rematch Jones embarasses him and knocks him out in the first round.

Clinton Woods - Woods is 32-1-0 when Jones TKO's him in the 6th.

John Ruiz - Ruiz is 38-4-1 when Jones UD's him for his Heavyweight title. Though even the most diehard fan could admit that Ruiz was the worst Heavyweight title holder out there.

Anonio Tarver- 21-1-0 when Jones gets a gift split decision.

Felix Trinidad - Years after his retirement Jones gets him out of retirement and fights him at 170 and embarasses him en route to a UD.

    LOSSES

    Bernard Hopkins

Clinton Mitchell - 0-0-0 in his pro debut SD loss.

Roy Jones Jr. - 21-0-0 in 1993 UD loss.

Jermain Taylor- 23-0-0 in 2005 SD loss.

Jermain Taylor- 24-0-0 in 2005 UD loss.

Joe Calzaghe - 44-0-0 in 2008 SD loss.

    Roy Jones Jr.

    Montell Griffin - 26-0-0 in 1997 DQ.

    Antonio Tarver - 21-2-0 in 2004 2nd round TKO.

    Glenn Johnson - 40-9-2 in 2004 9th round KO.

    Antonio Tarver - 23-3-0 in 2005 UD.

    Joe Calzaghe - 45-0-0 in 2008 UD.

Personally I think Hopkins because his record holds more stand out names, and even his defeats were by razor thin decision margins against Taylor twice, and a highly disputed SD loss to Calzaghe.

Where Jones was knocked cold twice, and completely embarassed by Calzaghe in a fight where he won only the first round.

I urge everybody who voices an opinion in this thread to take time to vote in the poll.

I'm not bashing Jones, or praising Hopkins. I honestly want to try to get an accurate poll reading after Roy's embarassing loss to Joe.

Hopkins though prime-for-prime I would say Jones was the better fighter.

Hopkins win last month may have tipped the balance in his favour.

Better how? As in more enertaining?

And what years do you consider to be Hopkins prime? Because I even have a hard time pinning it down myself, though I think it started around 98-99 and ended around '04. But 'Nard seems hell bent on rewriting what "prime" acually means anyway.

hopkins only has 1 real loss. throw out that 1st fight crap that don't count, the rest were all controversial and i felt hopkins won them all. he beat taylor twice and calzaghe was 50/50 could go either way. Only loss Hopkins truly suffered was to Jones.

As for Jones throw out that dumb Griffin loss that wasn't a loss, Roy basically "lost" for destroying Griffin too hard, if you want to call that a loss then you're a ******. He was destroying him knocked him down and then finished him off and was dq'd for that so whatever that's not a loss. Only losses Jones suffered were the recent ones.
On one hand I want to say Jones accomplished more because of what he did at different weights but what Hopkins did equalizes it so I say they are even.

hopkins if you factor in his proper wins over taylor in the first fight and calzaghe. his defiant attitude cost him greatly.

I honestly don't count Bernard's first pro loss or Roy's DQ loss, both were **** and shouldn't really count in terms of discrediting them.

I only listed them because I knew if I omitted them, some ****head would be like "What about the Griffin DQ?".
