Is it right for a champion to act like Calzaghe did?

I give up this thread. Think what you will...be proud of Joe.

And I don't seem to recall Trinidad being half blind and soaked in blood in that fight.
Just because a fighter is cut dosen't make it any less okay to do.
Roy was cut, it happens, it's boxing.

I just can't see the big deal about this whole thing.

        not me. the other guys.

i know how the politics and business of boxing works.

roy was at 175. joe is a lifelong 168. hopkins is a lifelong 160.

i don't blame anyone for ducking whoever out of those 3. they weren't in the same weight classes at the same time.

i do say that prime roy or bernard would beat joe but that's an opinion based on my own personal views about their skills and styles.

would it have been nice if they fought each other before? (roy and bernard already fought so with them i mean a rematch)

yes. but i don't say any of them ducked each other. hard enough to negotiate fights between champs in the same weight class. more so when they're in different weight divisions.

Roy is one of my all time favorite fighters, but that dosen't make it any less right what Calzaghe did. He did his thing, won the fight and proved he was the better man tonight. Now Roy needs to retire and focus on his life outside of boxing, that's it. End of story.

If Roy wanted to make a big finish to his career, he should have thrown more punches and fought Calzaghe.. Not just inviting him to throw and saying "come on! come on!"

Roy Jones career was based on his ****iness.

Now that the tables are turned, its a classless act?

Roy was about to start flapping his wings after the knockdown.
So you're trying to tell me that Roy Jones is no better, or no more deserving of respect than your average ham-and-egger?

If tat's your opinion, by all means you're entitled to it but I would think that the majority of the fans who so dearly love this sport would agree with me on the opposite.

And don't bring up Roy's career with me, I hated the son of a ***** from '94 up until Tarver KO'd him in what? '04 or something?

And the knockdown was nothing, Joe shook it off instantly, as he always does. You're comparing a flash knockdown to the damage Roy took to his eye?

It's just a difference of opinion. I'm not saying I'm right, and you're wrong, or vice versa.

It's just been my personal opinion that when you have a shot legend in trouble, you don't glorify it, you just handle your business in a respectful manner. Rocky Marciano did it with Joe Louis, Larry Holmes did it with Ali, and numerous other examples exist to support my opinion.

At the end of the day, Joe won. And Roy needs to hang them up. I think we can all agree on those 2 key points.

I'm not saying throw as many as Calzaghe. Nobody is gonna do that, ****.
I'm saying, he should of thrown more punches, just thrown more. In the final rounds of the fight he would put pressure on Joe but not throw anything, he showed he had heart to just go right back on his ass, but that was it.

I know what you're talking about. But I just don't get it.. To me, a fighter is supposed to do his thing 110% no matter who he is fighting.

And yes, that is certainly something we can agree on.
