Don King Started The Pacquiao vs. WBC Controversy?

it ain't a scandal. My point is that this drama should be avoided as to not blemish the Pacman with any kind of scandal. If his handlers pay up the $30,000 and put this to rest, no further complications will surface. If for some reason there was an accounting problem, then that can be handled without publicity.
the wbc wants money for no reason.
don't pay them. let them strip pacman.
nobody cares.
pacman will still be pacman. only difference is the new wbc champ WON'T be pacman. hurts the wbc , while not hurting manny at all imo.Comment

Okay, here's an example: say you bought a brand new Mercedes that you've been wanting for years and which you've earned through hard work but had lost it by repo. How would you feel? I don't think you would feel too well. I'm sure the Pacman wouldn't want to be stripped of a title in which he earned through hard work.let me ask you this manang.
if pacquiao losses a belt by stripping and he doesn't lose it by losing to another fighter...... how does it hurt pac's legacy?
**** the wbc. pac will pay fees for their trinkets. belts are always nice but pay for a fight that isn't for a belt?
the wbc is outta their ****ing mind. **** them.
let valero fight another jap **** star for that meaningless belt.
the belt is only as meaningful as the waist it's wrapped around.Last edited by Lady Fan; 11-08-2008, 04:37 PM.Comment

okay i'm done talking about this. you're quite taxing to talk to and argue with. maybe you are a chick.Okay, here's an example: say you bought a brand new Mercedes that you've been wanting for years and which you've earned through hard work but had lost it by repo. last one from tua.
you used a bad example.
here's a better one:
you get straight A's your last semester in high school.
you get all the awards , become valedictorian and you get accepted to a great college.
a year later a teacher comes to you and says give me $3,000.00 or i'll change your grade to an D.
would it really matter?Comment

Mr. Pink has the more appropriate example.
Manny is still in the top 5 for lightweights and a good box office draw. With or without the WBC belt.
I'd save 30 large and tell Jose Sulaiman to take a hike.
Continuing my rant, there must be only one belt per weight class. Each weight class has one belt holder. Otherwise they're meaningless.
I just wanna see exciting, competitive fights.Comment

I don't believe that Manny P and his entourage envisaged any sort of drama, since the offer was made in good faith. From what I can ascertain, the amount claimed by the WBC is $30,000 and Manny (through his lawyers or agents) offered $20,000.
Since boxing IS a business [well...the business part is...] there is nothing wrong with making an offer of 2/3 of the asking price. If any reader was looking for a used car, he'd do the same. I'd do the same. AND....instead of the "drama" the WBC could either accept or meet at another mutually agreed figure, with no fuss.
I think that, perhaps, the writer(s) may have made this into a "drama" and...until I actually read a true account of the event from someone who was actually there, I'll reserve my opinion.
Well....no, I wont reserve my opinion. I believe that, although a WBC Champ IS fighting in a bout {with which the WBC has nothing to do}, and not for the WBC title, they have no right to expect a "fee" at all. These fees are rightly called "sanctioning fees" , and nothing is being, or needs to be, sanctioned here.
If Manny wants to send the WBC a donation, well....thats a nice gesture since they are still insolvent due to the huge award that Rocco what's-his-name was awarded by the courts, wrongly in my opinion. He should have got something, but $30 mill>>>>> NO WAY. About a max of $2 mill would have covered his future earnings, certainly as Champ anyway. He was very mediocre at very best.
So, I apologise for getting off the subject, as I often do. Manny really owes them nothing, and Don King was just being Don King, stirring up muck which he personally can stand away from....maybe.Comment

Bull**** Fight
I hope that people see this fight for what it is, a chance for a payday for both fighters, and a chance for Dela Hoya to win a fight that at best looks good on paper. This fight is a sham and a total mismatch. I hope that people dont buy this fight or watch the rebroadcast to send the message to HBO that fight fans don't want to see let alone pay for any of these bull**** "megafights" that they try to slip by us.Comment

Jose Suleiman totally sugarcoated it first by saying to the tone that "Pacquiao is WBC's treasure and a Philippines hero" whatever, but then totally reversed his tone and insulted him for not paying up. WBC should be ashame of the way they handled this situation it almost looks deliberately planned and timed. And they re-elected him for another 4 years to head this organization. If there is one embarrasment in boxing today it is Suleiman & the WBC.Last edited by CosmicWind; 11-08-2008, 09:16 PM.Comment

Do you know the implications to Pacman if he pays the 30Gs? He has to pay the WBC another 1.5% of his purse for his fight against De La Hoya for the WBC to put the lightweight belt on hold. Under WBC rules, Pacquiao must pay the governing body a 1.5 percent fee for fighting Dela Hoya even if his lightweight crown isn’t at stake. Let's say Pacman makes 20M for the Dec. 6 fight, he has to pay the WBC another $300,000 as a sanction fee just for being their champ at 135! Pacman's sanction fees for the David Diaz fight has long been settled, the 30Gs is an error they found when Manny fought JMM for the Superfeatherweight title. Pacman's fee was suppose to be $90,000, but only $60,000 was deducted from his purse. The promoter or his accounting division does all the deductions, and Pacman has nothing to do with this error nor does he had prior knowledge about this problem.
.. and just like what most of here says, fcuk Sulaiman and the WBC! They can stick their belts up their asses! The belt doesn't make a man, but the fight that he makes and the boxers he fought...Comment
