Calzaghe has one major thing -- relentless determination. If he wins, that's how he does it.

I thought he was only bitter about Joe but he might be talking from experience here.

He might forget though that Jones now is not close to what he was against Hopkins and Toney, in my opinion.

It's as if he is talking about a prime Roy Jones.

Whatever bitterness Hop may have for Joe, it is multiplied by 10 when it comes to Jones. Hop has WAYYYY more history with RJJ than he does with Joe. Hop has been around this game a long ass time. While I don't particularly like him personality wise, you aren't going to find a more modern student of the game who just so happened to fight them both. I feel Hop has more insight than any other person alive when having to match RJJ and JC. WAR ROY!

          he fought roy in 93...

i dont think he can base it on "well i fought both of them and so this one is better" because first of all it never really works that way...and secondly the roy fight was in 93...

i hope he's right...calzaghe is clearly the favorite and with good reason.

i will be rooting for jones to win it.

A MUCH more prime Roy even though he wasn't prime. Hop felt what Roy had in his near peek speed, power and movement. He has also felt what JC has at his aging status which is still regarded by many to be elite. So, yes. Hop has a good insight on this fight IMO.

Hopkins knows boxing ok, but didnt he predict that he would take Joe Calzaghe to school and didnt he foolishly claim he HAD after losing a questionable split-decision (questionable only in that a judge gave Hopkins the fight). Hopkins KNOWS that RJJ is already guaranteed his place as a boxing legend and lost to RJJ before goingon his own great run unbeaten. Hopkins can take RJJ beating Joe, but the thought of Joe beating RJJ AS WELL AS HIMSELF makes Hopkins very very bitter. He was made to look a bit of a coward against Joe, hiding, butting, falling, holding, and he will NEVER be able to eradicate the shame of his performance - so he needs RJJ to do it for him.

when it comes to Calazaghe, Hopkins is blinkered by hate.

Thanks for posting ibox. Good read.

What I think matters most is the final thing Hopkins mentions and that's conditioning/stamina. My feeling is that Joe has much more than a 40 year old Jones.

But the interview makes me look forward to the fight even more. It carries a lot of weight for me when a great fighter like Hopkins breaks down a fight.

ummm WHAT exactly was Hopkins able to do against Joe? He caught him cold, no doubt to knock him down, but after that he butted, fell, held, faked injury and generally hid for most of the fight. If thats a legend in America?????

Harder shots is valid, but not to the extent Hops is making out. At the time of this quote, and him predicting Roy to win, he'd have quite probably known about the re match if Roy wins. So it's unlikely he'd get Roy if he wins. He's in a **** situation, best he can hope for is Roy losing closely to get another go at him, as he ain't getting another shot at Joe.
