I call those "silent agreements," like don't hurt me kind of stuff. To some people it relaxes them to have their opponents show signs of humanity. They don't want to face someone who is cold-blooded and looking to kill them.

i actually did notice that. it got me thinking: i've seen a lot of fighters touch gloves at the beginning of the round they get knocked out in.

you touch gloves before the fight starts. no need to do it again. it happened so fast i doubt the kid even realized what was going on. he was probably thinking, "ok, i'm going to come out hard with a left hook."
