As for my list of the top 5:

    1) Louis
    2) Ali
    3) Dempsey
    4) Holmes
    5) Foreman

Next group would be Lennox, Frazier, Marciano, Patterson, Tyson, etc.
Almost, I'd put Tyson in at three instead of Dempsey. The old timers were good for thier time, but the sport and skill sets evolve, making them obsolete. Tyson in his prime was unbeatable.

He may have been a beast in his prime but Mike did not beat the level of competition necessary for me to put him in my top 5.

It is always hard when you rate fighters from different eras against each other which is why I attempt to avoid doing it.

Interesting what Clay's corner did to help him survive.
Just listening to the commentary at the end of that: "It now appears to everyone that this young fighter is destined to become heavyweight champion of the World"

I wonder if that was added years afterwards, because most people didn't expect him to beat Liston.

Pretty solid list, I don't have one of my own but I think I'd put Holmes, Lennox and Marciano above Dempsey. I'd probably put in Holyfield instead Patterson as well.

Doug Jones was a very good light heavyweight (although he mostly fought at heavyweight) who lost a split decision to Ali/Clay.

He fought Ali, Bob Foster, Machen, Olson, Harold Johnson, Zora Folley, Terrell, Chuvalo and Frazier.

I don't think it was really a robbery but Jones made it a close fight. Ring Magazine named it the fight of the year in 1963.
