... I used to rate the guy, but watching them all back-to-back I found them a little tedious. I think I can put it down to the following:
1. Too much dominance makes for a dull fight. There's a reason why people always talk about The Thrilla In Manila and not Ali's fight with Zora Folley.
2. Lack of variance. Sure, he pretends to be a chicken and what have you, but in terms of actual boxing moves it's pretty much the same thing all the time.
3. Obvious reluctance to get hit. Muhammad Ali had defensive reflexes, but sometimes Roy just comes over as a batty boy using the referees and holding to get away from punches.
4. Personality. Muhammad Ali was a man who dared to defy The Man and always had one liners to spare. Roy Jones is a man who raised roosters and operates under the mistaken belief that he can rap.
Watching him again, incidentally, further cements my belief that he is NOT - outside of the dreams of 17-year-old fanboys - a top 50 ATG fighter.
