I agree with you guys, but when you see Mijares best fights, he throws good faints, side steps, counters, jabs and just isn't there to take the kind of shots Vic landed on him last night. I do agree that Vic has improved a lot his D, but the Vic I saw last night against Mijares in top shape would be a way closer fight.

Darchinyan's awkward, unpredictable southpaw style was a bad matchup for Mijares.

Cristian had a bad night, but he's a very talented, skillful fighter and will come back to win world titles again.

No not exposed, but he definitely didn't fight like he usually does and just seemed to not know how to attack Vic. It was mind boggling seeing him fight the way he did. The fight turned out the way I thought Mijares would have made it look. Have to give Vic all the credit though he's definitely improved and fought an excellent fight.

          .

Thats what I was going to say. But then again, I've never been that high on Mijares to begin with.

I think Darchinyans style was a little too akward for Mijares..
southpaw vs southpaw does get tricky.

and then with Vic being an unconventional southpaw, it gets very weird.

mijares wasnt exposed. vic was much improved and he didnt expect it. he underestimated a serious puncher who improved his defense and paid a price. the main area that vic improved his D was in making his offense more defensive: less lunging, keeping the right up when he threw the left, keeping the left up when he threw the right, etc.

mijares was actually ****y entering the fight. he never doubted that he would not only win, but dominate using his skills. then he got caught up in mexican pride and wanted to show he wasn't hurt. he kept inviting darchinyan in to brawl- an AWFUL idea. he also often got in vic's range WITHOUT jabbing his way in and out of range. He also looked out of place with vic's awkward style, and in fighting another southpaw. often times southpaw's are just as baffled by southpaws as orthodox fighters, because they see just as few of them in the ring. vic is far from your typical southpaw as well!

bottom line- a great win for vic. i think mijares can be more competitive in a close-call decison in the rematch. he may eek out a decision, or lose a close decision ala jermain-pavlik 2, in which the beaten fighter stepped up his game and the decision in the rematch could have gone either way. as impressed as i was with vic, i still don't think he will have the same, or really any success against nonito donaire should they rematch...

                  No
Mijares is already an established fighter who needed to get through a lot of good fighters on his way to the top. Mijares just put on a poor performance last night and even if he had been his normal self, Darchinyan would have still won because he is the better fighter. But don't discredit everything Mijares did before this fight, he definitely was not "exposed".

it was a combination of Vic's awkwardness and improved defense, Mijares' overconfidence and unpreparedness. Mijares and his team thought they were fighting the same guy that drew w/ Gorrez and lost to Nonito. Vic's defense, combination punching and punch selection was very good.

This is exactly what's wrong with boxing, the fans. Mijares got beat by the better man that night, period. Pretty simple really. A fighter loses and he is labeled as overhyped. Even the most die hard boxing fans seems to hate the sport now. By the way, Pavlik lost to a living legend, no shame there.
